Layaway.

jhca

My Mom used to do that back when I was just a wee tot.

:faceplam: [tm CES 2012]

I used layaway back in high school (but not at kmart)

Atty, you're asking logical questions - fairly sure those don't have a place in mass hysteria ;)

looking at the local economy i can see where people have no choice but to do layaway and try to keep it going. with so many jobs paying just minimum wage it already takes a miracle to feed a family .................. sigh

It's a financial planning/sales thing. Not gender related. Although you do have to deal with stereotypical roles. Hence the snark, I guess.

It's too early for Christmas. It's too early for Halloween but September is missing holidays.

Marketing and retail. Whatayagonnado?

The real marketing genius is the one that thought up the "Christmas in July" sale.

+100

I think it's also indicative of the credit crisis. Stores quit layaway when everyone started using mega credit.

But it's low risk this way, since the store doesn't release the merchandise until it's paid for. It costs them storage space, but little other risk. Helps people. "Locks in" business to their store by securing a commitment. Worst case loss is that they end up with people not paying for it and lose a sale due to holding it.

Do you actually KNOW someone that celebrates CHRISTMAS in July??? If you do, I'd keep them at (arm's length + 1) just to be safe.

ETA:
I do not even know what a "CHRISTMAS In July" sale is. I'm usually too busy in the yard.

Why We're Shutting Off Our Comments | Popular Science

The problem is when trolls and spambots overwhelm the former, diminishing our ability to do the latter.

That is not to suggest that we are the only website in the world that attracts vexing commenters. Far from it. Nor is it to suggest that all, or even close to all, of our commenters are shrill, boorish specimens of the lower internet phyla. We have many delightful, thought-provoking commenters.

    Backyard mowed and trimmed.

Deck blown off, furniture wiped down. Make it neat and tidy for landscaper (yes... THAT landscaper from Feb/Mar/Apr, again) tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be stellar, so sitting outdoors will be nice.

Weather's pretty nice here too Bear.

Ya know, every once in a while I'll think to myself, 'I should get a Provari'. Then after a minute or so, I'll think 'Why? It's just a battery holder. You have to fiddle around with one button to change anything.' Then I take another vape off my Vamo; maybe click the voltage up or down, maybe not; but I can, extremely easily. Maybe check the ohms on my atty, again extremely easily ... hey what's my battery voltage at? do I need to switch batteries yet? Easily checked. No click-click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click; Oh CRAP!!! Click-click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click--click.

I get annoyed sometimes with the Vamo when doing the 5-click to turn it on after changing the battery

    Bwahahaha....

ProVari: Is it Over the Hill?

Just get one and get it over with. That's what I did. And Tibs and Frannie. :)

But I use my mini Sigelei Zmax more often these days--I like variable wattage and I love the dual 510/eGo connection--it works great with all my Kanger BCCs. The only question is--how long will it last? ;)

    Good afternoon Snail People.

I need a landscaper, too. My yard is a jungle and all my good plants have been eaten by rabbits, snails, and--more recently--roof rats. Yikes!

Haven't given (or allowed one to have) a dog a bone (;)) since I was a kid. Had a German Shepherd then that had managed to get a section of bone wedged between his teeth against the roof of his mouth. It had been there a while before it was discovered - the roof of his mouth was actually slightly indented when the bone was removed. He hadn't shown any signs of distress or pain; but no bone for dogs since then. Maxwell on the other hand, chews through rawhide "bones" like crazy.

Same thing happened to one of my dogs but with a stick she had found and decided to chew on. Needed surgery to have those splinters removed from her gums and palate. She lost a tooth in the process. That was really sad.
