all y'all?

(Well, she sure can turn a phrase with the worst of them. Bless her heart...)*

* heard this one on TV...Secret Slang show. No offense intended. Just the only Southern'ism I could come up with. I'm pretty sure guys don't use it a lot either, but not 100% sure on that. So take it as a one-time thing.

morning, blessed ces! :D

i might could try to explain a couple of subtle southern differences... ;) y'all is a group, all y'all is still a group, but it implies a stronger emphasis (thus the redundancy, often used when one is just a teensy bit ....... All y'all get in here right now!! or when an individual within a group isn't paying attention. y'all listen up... ALL y'all listen up! ).

However, 'bless her heart', and 'blessed' have opposing meanings. Bless her heart means you just got finished stabbing her -or him- in the back, but don't want to sound mean. (he's nuttier than a fruit cake, bless his heart). Blessed is the new way to say have a nice day (have a blessed day), or to brag without bragging (oh, honey, i am just so blessed). Both uses of blessed imply shared religious beliefs.

(since i'm not from around here,i could easily be using them wrong- but if i did no one would tell me. they'd just say she has no idea, bless her heart)

Yes, but 'bless her heart' used in the south can mean empathy for someone's pain. I can hear Paula Deen saying it now.

sometimes...but the empathetic use is a little more rare. There are people here who are really good at making mean stuff sound nice until you think about it...

that ^ MUST BE rhetorical!

still waiting for your input pepper! ;)

Why.............................yes, it is.

I'm filling out my parlay cards for football right now. It's serious business. I'll have a whole $10 wagered on the games today ($2 bet on 5 cards, picking 10 teams on each card). If I hit on any card, it's $1600. I'll share if I hit.:D
