I'm in Birmingham. Been here since '96
I was torn away from Montgomery and the house I was born in at about 7 yo, when my mother remarried. I was able to go back one Christmas a few years ago. I wrote to the woman who lives there now, and told her about being born in that house, and all my memories. She agreed to open the house to me.
When I was a kid, I thought it was so huge, but over the years, I thought it probably just seemed bigger because I was so small. It's a grand old house that's still standing and wonderfully maintained. I spent a long weekend and got to see everything I wanted to... the Capitol, Downtown and the Fountain. everything. It was a wonderful, magical visit. They say you can never go home... well I did!!!
Is the Vulcan still standing with the light working in Birmingham?

Spreading his wings, I guess, but I'm glad he did. I never would have known about Snails otherwise. I found the Beach quite by accident, and have made some great friends. Hopefully more here, too.

Pepper told me that the Snails group is more of an early morning group, which is why I hadn't been here. The Beach gets going good at about 7:00 CST.
It's great that the people who have the house now gave you access. there are some incredible people here.
Vulcan is still standing- or should a say standing again. He was taken down a few years ago to be refurbished, he was rusty and falling apart. While the statue was down they set up a thing where blind kids could climb around on parts of it, so that they could experience vulcan too. He's up again, but with an arrow in his hand rather than lights.
Vulcan is this huge iron statue that used have a light in his outstretched arm. If the light was red it meant there'd been a traffic fatality that day, green was a good day on the road.
And time to get the day started..

When the times come that you don't see me, and they will, it's only because I'm more of a night owl. My schedule is upside down right now. But it's nice getting to see some people I haven't seen in a while, like TC, and being able to meet some new people.

What's an arrow now? The Vulcan? His torch used to go between a Green light and a Red light, with reference to the Mines there. I think Red meant there had been a fatality.
