OK, you may want to read this article, Mad. I pretty much agree with the author. And please bear in mind that it's an old article--before the best Chinese mods hit the market.

ProVari: Is it Over the Hill?

ProVari is as solid as they get, but do you really need a mod that will last you a lifetime? Technology changes so fast...

What I dislike most about the ProVari is the lack of airflow grooves in the top cap. You can't use it with many flat bottom toppers without an airflow controller, and that thing is fiddly and it drives me nuts.

Ecig Tank Airflow Controller

I can live without variable power, I can live with clumsy one button operation and the antiquated LED display, I can even live without a dual 510/eGo connection, but the lack of airflow control is a major flaw, in my book.

If I were to buy my first mod today, I'd look at Innokin iTaste batteries (MVP and SVD)--they are really nice, good looking and well-designed--for a fraction of the ProVari price tag.

Thanks for the info and feedback, tweety! I understand the airflow control issue; I can't push my carto tank all the way down on my Sigelei ZMax. I plan on buying a Hippo V2 if I do run into any issues that a little "finesse" on my part can't solve. ;) The selling point of the ProVari, for me, is the build quality and a post I saw that showed its signal on an oscilloscope - it was a flat line (yes, I know, you can adjust an oscilloscope to display what you want) compared to other devices' inconsistent lines.

If I don't like it, I don't think I'd have a very hard time at all selling it in the classies for somewhat close to cost. Now that I don't have the whole motorcycle hobby, a ProVari is hugely affordable compared to one set of tires (one front & one rear) that I'd shred in two days on a track day/race weekend. I gotta channel that hobby energy somewhere, right? :D

Don't get me wrong, Mad. I like my ProVari a lot. There is no doubt that ProVari delivers the smoothest, most consistent vape and that the quality and consistency are impeccable--and every oscilloscope has showed that. My question is whether we, the vapers, can actually distinguish that quality from what other mods deliver. I use my eGos and my mini Sigelei and the Provari all the time and even though I can tell the difference between an eGo and a Sigelei, I'm not sure I can actually detect much of a difference between the Sigelei and the Provari... Maybe I'm not as as well calibrated as those oscilloscopes. ;)

But hey, if you can afford it, go for it. You can always sell it. :D

The MVP 2.0 also has that nice flat line. Just sayin' I do think the Provari needs to a pretty major update soon. It is not perfect.

I've been eying that MVP for quite a while. I almost got it, but I read that the V3 is just around the corner, so I'll wait a bit longer. ;)

Argh...you HAD to mention the Semovar, didn'tcha? ;)

Mad, if you want a ProVari, get a ProVari. Semovar is largely untested--I wouldn't buy it yet. I'm just telling you what you already know--the mighty ProVari is beginning to show its age. Even the Provarinati quietly admit it.

When I bought it it had no competition, nothing even came close. It's a great device.

What do you want from me? Permission to buy one? ;) You know as much as I do about it. It's your call, dear. :D

I just re-read B'sMV's & Thrasher's comments in the ProVari vs. Semovar thread...no impulse purchases were made!

The ProVari fits the bill as far as what I'm looking for right now.

Nitey nite tweety, doug (I know you're lurkin somewhere) & snails! I gotta go lurk the e-liquid forum for some inspiration, heheh. :toast:

aha! mad found himself some company more suitable to the convalescence hours he keeps! :D

tweaked, tweety? i don't think so! in all those years the provari was tweaked once (from v.1 to v.2) v.2.5 can be ignored since that was just cosmetic ;)
and the semovar unproven? i doubt it! nothing unproven ever came from that outfit :D

all that aside - the semovar in 18350 is exactly the same size as the sigelei z mini - too big for my taste

morning, y'all!
