Oh sheesh- don't get me started on the new prescription guidelines for the statins. not trusting that at all.

You're not alone. Many physicians are doubtful also. The subject was raised apparently, briefly, at a faculty meeting DH attended this morning. Lots of eye rolling. Many suspect that BP was somehow involved, at some level... ;)

I don't know why, but this thread made me kinda upset/angry. If you're not gonna cooperate and do your part as a patient to help medical staff heal you....

GRRRRR, I'm not gonna finish my sentence because what I wanna type is so mean and it could possibly lead to a "discussion" about health insurance.

Sorry, but recently I'm just a bit sensitive when it comes to the topic of surgery.

I followed the link. I'm staying away.

There is a reason why you're given pre-op instructions and then asked the same questions a hundred times before surgery--safety.

The same people who find those instructions to be ridiculous and burdensome and choose not to follow them because they know better are the first ones to sue if anything goes wrong with the procedure.

70% of people smoked in the 50's and mostly survived surgery. How fast is fast? How slow is slow. Frigg'n doctors can just deal with nic addicts. Part of doing business.

Frigging doctors don't want to be sued, Atty. In this litigious society, doctors have to protect themselves and the hospitals where they work. That's the bottom line.

Everybody loves to hate cops and doctors--until they need one. :D

Thanks CES. All I can say is that I'm unhappy with the direction in which medical practice has been steered over the past 25 years or so (any longer and I'd lose credibility for knowing squat at that age) and I blame quite a bit of that on litigiousness!

Man, I'm a head case cuz I've got a physician and an attorney in my immediate family, HAR!

PS I hate my leg

Bingo.

Oh, everybody loves to hate lawyers, too--until they need one. :)

This country needs a tort reform--alas, our trial lawyers are big supporters of the current administration so I'm not holding my breath. Litigation is one of the main reasons the cost of healthcare is so ridiculously high in this country.

Just saying.

I don't hate em Kat. And I'm in favor of some torte reform too. And a bunch of other things...including "pay the doctors". I'd rather reduce the attorney income a bit.....;)

"The Law" and politics are (?inextricably?) intertwined.

The legal system is a "second economy"...where money moves around without retail sales ?or taxes?.

You know all those commercials you see frequently for medical devices/drugs/etc? It costs $$$$ to have them. There's rules, sure. But the bottom line is that the letters, commercials, etc. have to be written, made, run/sent. The TV networks get $$$$. The production companies get $$$$, the attorneys that review it get $$$$, etc. The results get tracked. The court gets some of that I think. $$$$

So that 50 billion dollar settlement...the people affected, if they sign up, get 20 cents. (Example, not real #).

How much money did ya'all get from that tobacco Settlement?
