You're closer to the ocean too. The coastal states do better. The lake protects us here a bit too....but can only do so much depending on wind...and this "vortex" thing is whipping the wind around in a circle ...down from CA and around the lake and back up....as I understand it. And what blows across the lake picks up water (usually) and then we get "lake effect snow".
Yet every continental state has somewhere below freezing forecast.

It's 14 degrees here now, supposed to go down to about 6. Our high today was 22, with below 0 windchill. Polar vortex- grrr. doesn't it realize there's a reason i don't live any further north.
