Yes. That's always been the argument. But in this case....it was a SECONDARY infection....something that's debatable for getting antibiotics anyway is (primary infection) flu. So...if he had "ignorantly" taken them, it might be alive today. Assuming he took enough for long enough. Irony, that.
If the USA had a medical system that was effective and approachable I guess you could argue that OTC is not necessary. But it doesn't. It's the most expensive and like 30th on the list of effectiveness.

Besides...look at the history the guy had (per CES)....swearing off doctors is not at all surprising...
I'm sure it's a lot more complicated than that. But sheesh!
