The fact that the health care system failed him. He had a huge debt, past history of treatments causing problems, and a fear of doctors doing more harm than good. Basically, the ineffectiveness part. The unapproachable part. The expensive part...Of the problem.

Regardless of new, or old, or yet-to-be-invented insurance.

the treatments that caused the huge debt also saved his life and allowed him to walk again, so the docs did do more good than harm. He was aware of that- even if he was wary of incurring more medical debt and couldn't take care of some of the long-term side effects of earlier treatment.

I'm on board with "nothing is easy"

...but i don't think it can be blamed on one single thing. It's just all messed up on many levels. It's discouraging.

Bear, what is penne vodka? I think of penne as pasta, but i can be an uniformed idjit at times.

I just made this the other day (lol).

Penne with vodka sauce. Google recipe.

That goes on the assumption THIS BUNCH has ever cut loose once in their lives.

ah, there is that....i'm used to dealing with either middle-aged female therapists, or scientists. The therapists like rock lobster and the scientists like brick house. Meaningful? prolly not.
