I'm not sure that comparing encyclopedias to the internet is really valid or applicable.

The root underlying reason for my hatred of cell phones is that they are a PHONE, period. I always have - and always will - consider the telephone to be the most intrusive of inventions. Back in landline-only days, that intrusion was confined to the home. Now, with cells, that intrusion is omnipresent; they are ringing everywhere and I don't even OWN one.

This is getting into "Outside" territory, so I will stop.

The avatar will return... in time.

My apologies Bear, didn't mean to be argumentative. I'm always feeling caught between being up to date with technology on one hand and ready to throw everything into a lake on the other. I get your point of view entirely. Lucky for me a cell phone has made it so I can run a small business. I couldn't survive without one although I'd like to.

Maybe a new a different bear avatar to reflect the change?

I did not take your reply as argumentative at all. But discussions like that are best for "Outside", although I rarely go there any more since Snails has moved here.

I'll just add a little something to the avatar and bring it back. I'm just thinking about what that "little something" might be and not get jettisoned into "the ether".

Tell me about it! I declined Prime Rib this past Saturday because I had no faith in what that particular restaurant might serve up. Three others at the table did go for it... and I was completely blown away by the slabs hanging over the sides of their plates.

Every time I have tried ribeye, they ended up a Nightmare in Chewing. And now that I have two fewer molars...

Mine too. Rib eyes will be my downfall long before chocolate cake gets me. Maybe twice a week a rib eye on the grill, 3 minutes one side, two minutes the other. Oh no, off to the store now to get.....
