Yikes. You're not in a place where you'd expect stuff to happen. Years ago my house was broken into when i was out of town, but only little stuff was taken- loose change, DVDs, a broken camera (my oldest dog was a pup and still crated during the day). My house sitters didn't notice anything till they went to watch DVDs. it turned out that at that time there was trend for kids to break into houses and only take stuff that they didn't think would be missed immediately.

yeah, it would be upsetting. It's not a good thing when someone has been in your house and going through your stuff. Do you keep your house locked? (((hugs)))

it's locked when we leave - guess it's time to check into alarms ...... sigh

still can't wrap my ahead around it ..........

An alarm is probably worth the piece of mind. The alarm hadn't been installed yet when it happened to me. It was very soon after, and it made all the difference. The other thing that i learned from the experience is that the inexpensive locks that are in most houses are really easy to slip using a butter knife (my landlord at the time showed me, and it took him about 2 seconds- and he then replaced the lock and got the alarm installed). So, new, good locks would also be a good idea. But, i also don't live in the better parts of town...it would be even more disconcerting out in the country where you are.
