alarm system is on my to-do list, not looking forward to that - would have to secure 5 entries not counting all the darn windows ....

Yikes. I have the doors secured, and motion detectors, glass break detectors, and burglar bars (put those on myself) rather than contacts on the windows. Of course, with the beasties, the motion detectors are never armed...but the beasties detect motion too. (and they do it VERY well)

miscounted, it's 6 entries - 3 sets of french doors, front door, back door, basement door .............. 8 windows and 2 bay windows for a total of 14 individual windows. motion detectors might be the better way to go but then there's all the wildlife - sigh

That does sound daunting. and not inexpensive. But the peace of mind may be worth it.

Glass break detectors... I would not recommend those, Tiburonfirst. We've disarmed all seven in the house, Tiburonfirst. They will go off with other noises as well, Tiburonfirst.

I'm not entirely sure that my glass break detectors are armed when i have the alarm set on "stay", but of all the hiccups that i had in my system, the glass break detectors weren't one of them.

There was a wire crossed somewhere, and every power fluctuation resulted in false hostage and medical alerts. But only when i was out of town. Invariably I'd get two calls in a row from the monitoring company within 24 hours of leaving town. Of course those alerts didn't set off the siren, so whoever was house sitting had no clue that anything was triggered.
