hi and bye, atty! ;)

i'm still pondering this - Recharge Mower

no oil, gas, filter, winterizing, sure sounds good but is it there yet ............ sigh

I have a funny story about that. Tried one of those in the...early 80's... (electric mower...not that one of course). Was OK for the 1st year or two. batteries died soon though.

For that money Tibby.... probably better to get a gas one. Less expensive too.

That said....I'm the guy that purchased a Li-Ion trimmer. lol. But hey, it works for the little trimming I need to do and it's a PITA to deal with 2-cycle mix when you don't need to. OTHO...if I wanted to do more with it...gas all the way.

That's a high price for a lower capacity. AND...(This is important) depending on the battery tech...if it's li-ion....you don't want to operate it much above 90 degrees F. It's not good for the batteries (at least for my charger). I'm up north, so 90+ is summer for me and even in the a.m. it's cooler than that.

N.M. Just looked at the manual. Says it should be mostly discharged before charging...so not Li-Ion I would guess. Which could mean they have a "memory". Not sure.

We played guinea pig so you don't have to. I wouldn't go elec with a rider if it was me. :2c: But it IS tempting. But for $2600 MSRP....meh.

Most gas riders just take gas like your car. Get someone to change the oil after the 1st 5 or 10 hours and once a year thereafter. No biggie. Grease fittings once in a while too (every few years is probably fine). Take the battery out in the winter if it freezes there. Will run for decades.

You can even get a Deere during a sale for that price:
John.Deere X300 with 42-in. Deck Lawn Tractor | JohnDeere.com

These are good mowers too
http://www.cubcadet.com/equipment/cubcadet/lawn-and-garden-tractors/series-1000 and even less expensive.

Get bigger than you need. Will last. Don't have to over do it though.

Boy...Sure is fun spending Tibby's money. LOL!

Now...if it is a ROBOTIC self-cutting mower that has super-smart safety features....and animal/people/obstacle sensors and recharges itself and cuts automatically every week....OK get it. Just for the fun factor. But I don't trust em until they've been in common use for decades without accidents. Roomba...sure. Mowerba....IDK.

well - i might just have to give that mower a try! almost 2 hrs to exchange a duplex outside outlet :?: granted, some problems - one screw stripped, 2 rusted ..... but still and dh is exhausted. help is not easy to get around here and doing oil changes, filters etc is not what i had envisioned for myself ;)

btw if i have to go with a regular mower i'd like to find something like this but just a little smaller
Husqvarna Fast Track Yard Tractor — 24 HP Kohler Courage Engine, 48in. Deck, Model# YTH24K48 | Riding Mowers| Northern Tool + Equipment

Wait until "The Boy" visits, hand him XX quarts of oil, a new filter, and an oil collection pan* ...inform him that dinner is in 45 minutes IF he gets the oil changed. Easy.

* (All of which you can pick up at the tractor store and/or order on line and have UPS deliver even).

OK, Atty is butting out now. But I figured you wanted comments since you posted...... (It is the internet you know). :)

I'm not in super great health...but I get the oil changed and the battery stored in winter. Don't know your situation. Still....not sure you won't have to remove the batteries for the electric one too.

I think we got taken years ago by a slick salesman and the "lure" of easy maintenance. I'm not impressed with battery riders. Just :2c:

:( I'm sorry about that Tibby. ((DH)) My best to him.

Said what I said. Just :2c: Of course, do what you feel is best for you. I still think it's the gas one. Even if you don't change the oil only twice in 10 years...

One of my 87 YO neighbor ladies...oil in her mower hasn't been changed in years. I cut her grass now with my mower because she's 87...but she used to insist on using hers and didn't even want anyone messing with it. It's at least 20 years old. Just needs a battery charge in the spring (she doesn't even remove the battery or have me do it. Stubborn. Of course, she'd have to be because her late husband was of German decent ;))

P.S.

Do you have a lot of hills? What size yard? P.M me or just say NOYB if you want. The two main things I worry about with ANY rider is hills and turning radius and mower width. (As far as matching it to the yard. Also intended functions...like tilling the pasture or snow removal or whatever if you want all that. Then there's build, HP, .... but I'm wondering about intent...and yard.)

Thing you have to worry about with any rider....rolling over on you on a hill and ....ouch...um...yeah.

some hills, atty, but i can avoid them with a smaller lawn tractor ...... probably close to 2 acres of grass, rest is naturalized but i've been known to keep the weeds down there with a tractor if i couldn't get a feller to run the weed eater.

geoff's 50 lb bag of feed is a problem getting to the barn; and a snow blade would come in handy. close to 700 ft of driveway. but taking off a deck and attaching a blade how reasonable is that for me to attempt?
