Sigh...I got a call from the local police last night. My oldest brother passed away in his apartment. Unfortunately, he was mentally ill and we had not been in touch for awhile. The guilt eats at me because of all the people he alienated, I was probably closest to him. I feel I could have done more for him, yet also know that the times I tried, he pushed me away. I don't say this for sympathy....but to say, if you know someone who has a mental illness......please try harder than I did. I know it's hard to understand things.....but to know you did all you could makes for easier peace of mind.
Well, you are going to get sympathy, (((Norie))). I know you and I'm sure that you did all that you could for your brother. There's not much more that you could have done, considering that he pushed you away.
Thank you Jerry. It is a difficult disease for people to deal with. It always left me frustrated, guilt-ridden, and just plain wrung out. But I can imagine what his life was like too. And dying alone thinking nobody cares has to be the worst.

Sorry to hear the news Norie. It is hard and very frustrating to deal with people in that condition and sometimes nothing you do gets through. I'm sure you did your best for him.

Your heart is just and motives sincere. It takes both parties to make for pleasant conversation. And there's mitigating factors. All you can do. So know in your heart that A) you're OK and were sincere and did what you could and B) he's knows that now too (IMHO...IDK your belief system so I apologize if that offends).

I actually came here to get some help, but wanted to leave my sorry for notsogood. Figure its in bad form to bust in and not read a little before posting.
