I have been using Odysseus atomizers for almost 2 years. I only had a spitting problem when learning the ways of rebuilding when learning on the old Vivi NOva .

I finally did the switch from Ekowool to Ken Gen Do cotton last week. Im getting the great sizzle, and crackle of a good set up, but I keep getting the occasional POP and spit. The spitting is at the most annoying and once in a while painful.

I have never gotten a definitive answer as to WHY? Is there not enough wick ? Is the wrap too tight? I use 30 gauge Kanthal twisted with 34 gauge pure nickel. I slip the cotton in snug , but with enough room for sliding it . I use 70VG/ 30PG. I build for 1.0 resistance. Like I said its on an Odysseus V2 and ELA combination.

ANy thoughts?

I am no expert by any means, but the snap, crackle, pop and sometimes spit (sizzle) is just the way I like my vaping ... tells me everything is working nicely.

And I don't vape with sub-ohm coils either, or super high power.

In fact, I have found a real nice 'in the middle' type coil being around 1.7 ohms and feeding it about 3.8v which is 8.5 watts when using the 1.7 ohm single coil.

Not cold at all, but not burning hot .... just a real nice vape with good clouds, and a nice slightly warm taste.

Yup .... 'middle of the road' is what you'll get :)

I use a mechanical device so I cant zero it down like you do. I used to vape at around 1.5 but have lowered it down lately. I dont like to cough or get over nic-ed so anything lower than 1.0 on the Ody get too darn hot. On my Penelopes I do 1.5 - 1.7, its a warmer device. On my dripper, I do 1.5.

I dont mind a bit of splatter, just when it burns my lip or the tip of my tongue, it messes with the "buds" and its all about taste....

I guess we are 'middle of the roads'

I've noticed it mostly on builds that tend to hold more juice in between the coils like twisted wire. The first time I fire it after letting it sit for a while, I will almost always get a loud POP and some hot juice and then it starts firing like a normal coil. It probably has something to do with wicking as well, but I really don't have any idea what the science behind it is, unfortunately. Some atomizers have "spit-back" protection like the Patriot.

Really? how they do dat?
It's not really as elegant as it sounds. They just don't make the drip tip hole all the way through. It is bored out for the drip tip and then they only drill a smaller hole in the center. I believe it's about the same size as the bottom of a standard 510 drip tip on the through hole. I haven't used one though, so I can't tell you how well it actually works.

I use a mechanical device so I cant zero it down like you do.

I also have a mechanical tube mod (Caravela clone), but I installed a Kick in the 18650 tube, so I can adjust the volts to whatever I want.

Works just as well as my iTaste MVP 2.0 adjustable battery in that regard.

Normally when you have gaps between the coil and cotton, I suppose the air gap builds pressure

open coils do it more, like mini eruptions between two wraps forcing out the liquid, micro coils would be a good move with the touching wraps and should only shoot juice out the ends with a nice thin vapour coming off the middle of the coil

you can also get spitting, harshness and lots of TH from cotton that hasn't been cleaned properly but this shouldn't be the case for you with your kgd which doesn't need washing

another thing you can do is buy some pipe mesh, you can get it from ebay, little circles of mesh, get the smallest diameter and place them inside your DT, it will stop the bigger bubbles of hot juice popping up through

if ya do get pipe mesh the chances are it will be wider then your driptip, all you do is cut a slit into the center of the mesh and roll it over on itself to make a cone shape that fits snug down inside the DT so it doesn't slide back out
if the mesh is still to big you can cut some from the edge before rolling again until you get it right.

you can also cone-up two mesh together with the mesh running across each other to get even smaller gaps

Coiling my wires closer together made a BIG difference, nice crackle and clouds , no hot liquid spitting out. Thanks all for all the tips. I didnt know how much I missed the crackle. Since I made the switch to Ekowool, I got good performance , but lost that sizzle. Switching to cotton on the Odys brought them to life again. Things are good. I still use Ekowool on other atties, its the best of the silica wicks.
