I am a new "snuser" and have tried the swedish General White portion, General Wintergreen, and General Mint. General wintergreen i liked the best. Mint was too toothpaste tasting, I am more of a wintergreen/sperimint liker. lol. General White Portion was SALTY AS HELLLL!!! OK, Got past the salty part, but It tastes like TEA not tobacco. Is there any SWEDISH Snus that tastes like tobacco in the sense of Copenhegan, skoal, redman, etc etc or even like a cigar just as long as it tastes like tobacco and not a tea bag. It really tasted like tea to me. thanx! I am ready to order some swedish snus....kind of.

THANX for the quick reply! The salt wouldnt bother me if it had a nice smokey or dank tobacco taste. I like dark coffee and Deer meat and Wild Bills beef Jerkey. I want something that tastes like It was tobacco picked by an ancient tribe and cured to juicy flavorfull perfection with the roots and trees and hand made dark whiskeys to add flavor. Or.....something less animated but with the same idea. lol

    Somewhere between here and there
There is probe whiskey snus. I haven't tried it. I have tried the click white portions and those have a smokey flavor to them. My regulars are general mint, claq qui(they quit selling it), lab01, lab02, skruf es, skruf tranbar, thunder berry, and grov black. The grov has a bit of a vanilla taste to it. I never did care much for the ettan myself. There are several out there that I haven't tried and I have been using snus for about a year and a half. Not to mention they keep coming out with new ones. I want to try the odens extreme. That should be a real kick in the pants at 22mg.

Ok here is what I ordered. Please tell me if I'm on the right track or if any of these are too similar to General White Portion or just plain horrible in your opinion.

    1. Probe Whiskey
    2. Offroad Wintergreen
    3. Odens White Portion
    4. Ettan White Portion
    5. Pioneer Loose Snuff
    6. Thunder Frosted
    7. 01 Original

Can't remember the last one but are these up my alley from what I described? I was a smoker and never really chewed or dipped but I am American and I like what I have tasted from American chew/Dip etc. Nothing against the Sweeds (much higher quality product) but I just don't get satisfaction from salty tea (general White Portion) lol. Thanx again.

You already have the Ettan (among my top snus) and 01 which are both straight tobacco flavor. Ettan has a mild smoky flavor and 01 a slight nutty flavor. Two others worth a try are Grovsnus and Tre Ankare. The Grovsnus is a bit stronger then Ettan but they both compliment each other. Tre Ankare is a straight tobacco flavor with a slight herb taste in the background. None of these have the citrus bergamot in it.

Don't worry about the salt. As you get used to snus it just fads into the background. Within a few weeks you'll hardly notice it. Another rule of thumb is never through away any snus. Just put it in the cooler and give it another try in a few days or weeks. What you thought you didn't like may start growing on you and become among your favorites in the long run. Just give it a bit of time for your taste to adjust.

Thanx. I do get in the mood for Gen WP once in a while but I think it's just because I get sick of the MINT MINT MINT! and like to switch it up. I CAN'T WAIT to try the new snus I ordered. I'll really have to try hard not to open them all at once to smell/taste them. How long are they good in the fridge untill they dry out? Also how long are they good for OUT of the fridge after being opened? couple days? weeks? months?

Mind if I jump in here? I don't think I need my own thread...

I havn't snused in a while, but enjoy it when I do. I can only get General around here, and it doesnt do it for me.

Can anyone recommend anything like the Lucky Strike or Camel snus (not the USA camel snus), or even the Phillip morris (1847 or something???). I really like those American brand name snus'. But due to brand restrictions... I can't order those, in America.

    Thanks!

I haven't tried those. I did try 3 flavors of General, Offroad wintergreen, and Probe Whiskey. I can tell you I do not like General really at all. Offroad wintergreen sucks, tastes like cigar tobacco with no wintergreen flavor to speak of. General wintergreen is alright i guess but...BUT... I LOVE Probe Whiskey!!!! Great flavor.

First off for all you dippers out there you may want to read this

    Dipper's Guide to Snus

Much better information that I could give as I've never dipped.

As for something to recommend to replace Camel or Lucky Strike I don't have much to offer. I never did get to try Lucky Strike but from what I've heard it was a straight smoky tobacco flavor. Again I would check out Ettan and Grov to start it off.

Camel snus is a different story as it is a bergamot type snus, but quite different from General. I had a few cans before it was gone from the USA and the closest snus I can think of is Gotlands Yellow. Sadly that is also gone but for different reasons. I just finished up my last can of Gotlands last month and miss it. Not all bergamot is the same and Gotlands was the best. They both had a clean fresh citrus flavor but without the heavy handed smoky flavor of General. I don't know of any bergamot out their at the moment that is even close.

Skruf original would be something to consider. It's the only bergamot I'm doing at the moment. It doesn't have the smoky flavor added which for me doesn't go well with bergamot. The loose is better than the portions but I can live with either. You can't get Skruf at Northerner or Getsnus but you can get it at Snus Central.
