Hi All,

My name is Jody, but I go by Jode. I am very new to this world of vaping, but very excited about it. I have smoked cigarettes for way too long (almost 40 yrs) and it is time to stop that and vape more. I tried to switch to ecigs about 4 yrs ago but was sadly disappointed with the hugely expensive products out at the time. Picture desperate to quit woman standing at a mall kiosk while a young smooth salesperson talks me out of almost $300.00 for something that didn't come close to what I expected and not even close to the demo I was shown. Fast forward to now. My daughter had to do a college project on ecigs and the information intrigued me again. I then discovered a couple of neighbors are now vapers, so I spoke to them to find out newest info. I am excited to delve into this new (to me) realm and go from smelly, sick smoker to fun, healthier vaper.

LOL!! Welcome to the forums, Jode! So glad you found us and decided to give vaping another try. I did exactly what you did about 5 years ago... I was walking through the mall and this really cute girl was sitting at a kiosk smoking! I was blown away that she could do that in the mall, so I was curious... and did I mention that she was really cute? Anyway, long story short, I got talked out of about $300 for the crappiest e-cig on the market! I loved the concept and could see the potential, so about a week later, I got online and started doing some research. I found a better model for a tenth of the price and ordered it... the rest, as they say, is history!

Welcome to the forums jode. Lots of support and helpful information here. Things have come very far in a short time in the vaping area. I recently quit after 45 years and vaping made it possible. It's not a complete miracle cure but it is the only thing I have ever used to quit so quickly and completely. So jump in, do a little research, ask some questions and find something that you like, vape away and quit them damn cancer sticks! You can do it.
BTW it's a lot cheaper and easier than it used to be! Good luck!

I am leaning toward the Kanger Evod but have not done enough research yet. I was so excited about these ejuices that I had to at least try something so I went to one of my local head shops (smokers shop) and bought a voodoo epen just to get the feel of these new (to me) things. Its not bad, I have only had it a day so I don't have much to base my opinion on yet. My neighbors use Kanger Evod so that is the only other mod I have tried. I am also interested in the custom like mods. I mean, lets face it, I am a gal of the 70's and these things are freaking cool. They remind me of my old custom pipes. I am open to thoughts as I would rather not waste money on junk, but I feel like this will be a highly subjective area based on personal preference.

I think they only hired young attractive people to sell these pipe dreams. I, like you really loved the concept, because I had just become a first time grandmother, so besides wanting to be healthier, I didn't want to expose my new baby girl to second hand smoke, or a smelly Grammy. So I am so very pleased to have found my way back. I may have gotten discourage then but I guess it is never too late to try again.

So very true! I should have been wise enough to know better, but I'm always a sucker for a pretty face... and you are right, it is never to late to try again! You will find that things have come a long, long way since those days... The Evod is a great starter set-up. Way better than the cig-a-likes we had then... and the eGo Twists or Spinners are also a good upgrade that allow for a small amount of customization. I've heard great things about the MVP2, but I do not have one.
If you have any questions at all, please, do not hesitate to ask here. Everyone here is soooo very friendly and understanding! I am on here most days during the day as well, so feel free to send me a PM if you have any problems that you need an answer for... we're here to help!!

Hi Jode, and welcome.

I use a Kanger Evod, and am really happy with it. It's simple to use and cheap to maintain. I think it would be an excellent way to start out.

You may find you want something more complicated in the future, but I would recommend trying out a cheaper setup first so you can be sure it's for you before investing more money, Compared to the cost of cigarettes, the Evod starter kit is a good investment even if you only use it for a couple of months. You can get used to it, try some coil rebuilding, and decide what more you would want from it and research something that will suit you best.

Good luck, and happy vaping!

EVODs are nice. I've moved on to Innokin (a VTR) now but still have my EVODs as "back ups".

I'd suggest leaving custom and cool for later. Easy and basic is better for getting started. I quit smoking (a 30+ year habit) on Twist batteries with Vision and EVOD toppers. Went for the "shiny" once I got oriented and had a good idea what worked for me.

Hello and Welcome Jode. Someone mentioned the MVP. I have 2 and I can reccomend it to you. It's different from the Evod as it is a box mod. The good thing about it is it's battery life and adjustability. You can get them now really cheap. I think 88evape has them for $39.99. You would have to get a tank to go with it as a matter of fact you could use the Evod tank. This is just my opinion. What ever you choose that keeps you off the cigs is a good thing. And Congrats on becoming a Grandma! :toast:

You have all been so helpful. Several of you have suggested sticking to basic to start and I will. I have my little voodoo epen right now. It may not be the best on the market (I don't know it could actually be better rated then I think) but it is giving me a chance to get used to the idea of ejuice , vape maintenance, and battery life. Now my daughter wants one so I think a trip to the local smokers shop is in order. :vapor:

Welcome!

HeHe. If I had to guess the mall e-cig was from Smoking Anywhere. They were RN4081 superminis in neat colors for about 10x what you could get from the OEM in China. See what marketing can do?
I actually had a RN4081 back in the day, I much preferred my Joye 510 pushbuttons. I actually still have a few that still work 5 years later. No idea if the RN still works, never cared to find out, they were kinda crappy.

Now there are so many reliable options, and ready availability of quality juice (big problem early on).
It is so easy to quit with the gear that is out now. Then you can decide if you wanna scrap vaping, or if you wanna be addicted to vaping toys.

to ecf Jode. So glad you are here. Vaping is awesome. Only thing that has helped this 40 some year smoker quit and never look back. Good luck to you and happy vaping.
