I've run the gamut between safety and cut-throat razors, as well as machines. I hate shaving!!!!! It's an utter waste of time. I had a beard for a while, but concluded that's not for me.

Where's the Rob of the blade world? If there ever was a product that needed a dose of Reo design rationality, that's it :D

I just buy single blade disposables and use each one for a couple of months. I hate new blades prolly why I keep them so long. I do have a few straight razors and have thought about trying them out. Who knows if I do that I'll have enough scar tissue I won't need to shave. LOL

Can you send me your old worn out disposables? :p

I do the same..cheapo single blade til it feels like sandpaper then throw out.

Not everyone is the same, different skin types, different facial hair. There is a learning curve going in to using an old double edge razor. But that is what makes the outcome so much better. I can tell you the single best thing you can do is ditch the can of goo. At your local grocery or drug store you will find a Vangerhagen starter kit (soap, brush, bowl). It is pretty inexpensive and works really well for what it is. The pink soap has a weird smell to me, just so you know.

The razor and blades, this is the hard part. There is no single go to setup as everyones face is different. I got pretty lucky, the best razor I have is a '57 Gillette that I got off of ebay for $15, and the blades I can use the Wilkinson Swords stocked everywhere, and Gillette yellows made in Russia.

Razor - one time buy - $15
Blades - Wilkinson Swords - $1.75 for 10 (each blade lasts about a week or so for me)
soap - Van der hagen - $1.59 (lasts months)

As those guys are fond of saying YMMV (your mileage may vary)

Sorry for throwing this thread way off topic.

i can count the number of times i've shaved in the last 45 years on my fingers.

3 times to amuse various ladies in my life and two times to let my daughters see what my face actually looked like.. with one exception, everyone involved was horrified...

it is a barbaric custom

I do agree, you are meant to have hair on your face.
I went into the Navy just after High School, well they thought quite a bit differently.
Once the Navy started the "Every sailor is a fire fighter" bit, beards went away.
It has just been habit since. I do let it grow out on the weekends, and longer on holidays, but man, after about a week it absolutely drives me crazy, itches to high heaven.

It doesn't help that it has lots of gray in it now >.<

Though, once I get to retirement, I am planning to let it go for a while.
