It's my first APV, coming from using eGo twists. I'm hoping this will be able to handle my carto's, vivi nova, PT 1, and also allow me to move up to rda's.

It seems that for my needs (I come from smoking cloves, so getting a good throat hit is a big deal for me) and budget constraints (can't afford a provari), the zmax, I'm hoping, will do the trick: allow me too drip at home, and also use a rba or carto/tank setup when I'm out for hours.

Have I made the right choice? Opinions?

I think you will be very happy with your decision to get the Sigelei ZMAX. I was pleasantly surprised when I rec'd mine and checked it out. In terms of quality vs price I don't think you can beat it. It has handled everything from carto's to RBA's with no problems.
You may want to pick up some Noalox to put on the telescoping threads and battery caps to help preserve them. Not saying there was a problem with the threads, just something akin to doing PM on a car -- help preserve and extend the working life.
I like mine so much that I'm planning on getting one for my wife and probably another for a backup.

Mine cuts to low load status on anything under 1.3 ohms. It can be tricky trying to get close to that resistance without going lower, but with 30ga kanthal, 4 winds is usually good with 2mil eko. And an 18650 lasts a good portion of the day with heavy use. I'm very satisfied. If I want to go dual coil, tho, I'm SOL.

Curt.

The Segelei Zmax V3 is a great mod for the price. If you are looking to do low ohm vaping, you need a mech with a sacrificial spring to protect the battery under extreme loads or a short condition, along with a battery with reserve load capacity to prevent heat related failures.

Using an auto mod for sub ohm vaping is kind of like using a modern vehicle for drag racing. Over-rev it and the motor shuts down to protect it from catastrophic failure. It's all part of the design.
