So, I really want to try an Ikenvape Carto

So I've been stalking, and since I'm a bit of a noob, they might have what I'm looking for and I'm just not seeing it.

After blu, I started out with JC, and the Vea. Those have been okay, I love that they have great flavor (for me), but since I'm new at this, a little over 6 months in, I just want to try some others, and these have been highly recommended here on the forum.

Also, I looked at JC, and what I've been using are 1.8 ohm, but it registers 2.2, the one I have on now anyway, is that the +/- area?
(I recently purchased a mini provape, so I can check now)

I also looked and JC's website doesn't say if these are single coil or dual. I would guess single, but I'm really clueless.
It's okay, I'll get there, I know WAY more than I did a month ago. :p

I'd like to have an idea of what to order when they have any in stock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:)

edit: I have on order from Avid Vapor X2 Dual Coil XL510 Cartos, and X2 Dual Coil XXL510 Cartos - I'm just trying to try a few new things so I can at least compare.

I wasn't absolutely certain what you meant by "JC" and then realized you must mean Johnson's Creek. I looked on their website to see what you had been using on your Vea, which is essentually an eGo class battery. Ok, so now that I know what you had been using, lets talk about what to use on your new Mini Provari.

(I am assuming what you have is a Mini Provari. You did say "Mini Provape" which is somewhat confusing. A "Provari" is a variable voltage e-cig and a "Provape-1" is a single voltage e-cig. In addition, you indicated that you were able to check the resistance of the JC carto, which one can't do on the Provape-1. Provape is the manufacturer of the Provari and Provape-1.)

You can use a low resistance cartomizer or atomizer on the Provari and it will work. However, Provape recommends using standard or high resistance for the Provari. Using a higher resistance will allow you to take full advantage of the Provari's variable voltage options. A 2.0 ohm (low resistance) coil best voltage range is 3.0 - 4.0 volts. The heating coil is not really designed to work higher than 4 volts.

The Provari has a voltage range of 3.0 - 6.0 volts. Using a 2.5 ohm or 3.0 ohm cartomizer would allow you to use higher voltages between 3.4 - 5.0 volts.

The Safe vaping Power Chart is a general guideline that many vapors use to figure the best resistance to use on their chosen battery and voltage ranges. http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/864/fullchart.jpg

The following article discusses finding your "sweet spot" in voltage range using the Safe vaping Power Chart: Guide to Safe Vaping - E-Cigarette Safety | Ecig Advanced Community Blog

Ikenvape is run by a vendor named Isaac who commissions a China manufacturer to produce his line of cartomizers and atomizers to his strict standards. Due to things beyond his control, he is not able to meet the supply/demand for his popular cartomizers so they are often out of stock. But yes, these are a higher quality cartomizer compared to the rest of products coming from China. I think I have had but one bad Ikenvape carto out of 50 tried, and the consistancy, flavor production, and longivity of them are superior to the competition IMHO.

All of the Ikenvape cartos are single coil. They are offered in a standard 35mm length and the XL (mega) length. They are offered in LR (low resistance) and SR (standard resistance). The Platinum line are 2.5 ohm and the 510 Fusion line are 3.0 ohm. Laser-drilled (two holes) carts are categorized as "Punched!" and are meant to be used in a cartotank.

There are also the 801 Fusion line, but disregard them as they use an 801 threading.

I use the Platinum and 510 Fusions in cartotanks on my two Provari's. Since my tanks are the longer DCT style tanks, I order them in the "mega" length. In addition, since I prefer using pre-punched cartos for my tanks, I also order them "punched!".

Dual coil vs single coil cartomizers. Of course, the name identifies if the carto uses one or two heating coils. A dual coil 1.5 ohm carto has two 3.0 ohm heating coils in it, but it will meter out as a 1.5 ohm resistance.

In my personal experience, I prefer single coils, as I prefer a cooler vape. I often got a burnt taste from dual coils, and found their vape to be harsh. Other vapors may experience that as a stronger throat hit or warm vape. Since I switched to single coils I get a smoother, cooler vape. I also get a noticably longer battery life with the single coils.

Hopefully that clarified some issues that you had about ordering Ikenvape cartomizers. Now let's hope you can get a hold of some. Be sure to get on the "notify me" list of when they are in stock.

Thank you so much for your kind in depth reply, and links!!

Yes, ego style, but since it doesn't have ego threading, only 510, I've just only referred to it as a Vea.

Mini Provape....ugh, total mistake on my part, GRACIOUS....LOL....Mini Provari......had to go look at my OP to see that - yes, I really DID type that...

Right, I'd read not to run low ohms at high volts, I've been running at 3.8 to 3.9, they really do vape better on the mini provari than the ego style, but each has it's place, and the ego has been my bestest friend for the last 6 months, so no knocks here, but I'm really, really, really pleased with the mini provari.

Ok, as for cartos, when they are back in stock, I will go with your suggestions. I believe I saw a 810 to 510 adapter, so that would work too, ehh? I'm not especially interested in using them with a tank yet. So I'll just want the ones that have not been drilled/punched.

What I'd been doing with the Johnson Creek cartos was keeping several going at once, storing them in an empty pill bottle with a bit of cotton in the bottom of the bottle. Then (when at work) when it started getting low, I just swap for a full one, then re-top off at night. That worked fine, and no worries regarding leaks.

Maybe when I learn more, I'll take that carto tank plunge too. I did get a Kanger Pro Tank, I'm doing okay with it too, but really think I prefer cartos. Everyone likes different things, but ? I don't know, I just kinda like the cartos.
Comfort zone maybe.
Geesh, sorry......long winded today.

Thank you again sooooooooo much!!!

Yes, you can use the adapter on an 801, but it's not going to look as pretty on your new Provari as a 510. Trust me; I learned the hard way. lol.

Once you try Ikenvapes, you won't want any other kind of cartomizer. They really are that much better, in my opinion.

Just listen to what Baditude has to say about this. He's the carto-tank wizard. :)

Do you think they'll be okay without the tank?? Do people use them without too?

Of course they do. :) The problem with using a carto solo is you can't see your juice level to know exactly when to refill it. Using a carto in a tank allows you to see the level of the juice in the tank, plus you can go all day on just one tank of juice or even longer if you use multiple tanks. As you vape, the suction causes additional juice to enter the carto from the tank...no fuss. Using a tank accessory tool as suggested in the below tutorial makes filling and refilling simple.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3710-5-cartomizer-tank-setup.html

I use the smaller pyrex cartotanks on my Provari's. They have a 2 ml capacity. I carry several with me for the day, each with their own flavor. Switching between flavors is easy with a cartotank. Just make a vaping budget to purchase one or two $25 tanks a month and you'll have a collection, too. IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us!

Very nice!! I'll get there.
The kanger protank looks really good on it, I just don't get that cozy warm vape that I love.

So much to learn once you step away from your original vaping sources. Vendors, e-liquids, top and bottom devices, the forum, and ins and out here......I think I'm on vaping overload......oh, and PLUS....a few weeks ago I ordered DIY stuff for e-liquid, so I've been trying to read about that. I bought the premixed nic & vg, so nothing too advanced for me, and I've yet to try that....sorry off topic.

My hubby will walk by and just smile and shake his head......as in......you are still on that computer....LOL.

So Baditude, my hubby lived in Cincinnati for a short time, over 20 years ago, and he said that when you're driving in Cincinnati, do not make eye contact with others, they'll drive straight at you....LOL......is that true??? :vapor: Inquiring minds want to know.....

I've lived in Cincinnati for over 40 years. I can't recall of anything of the above nature happening. It's a pretty conservative city in both politics and customs. I believe that Mark Twain once made the remark that if he somehow got forewarning of the end of the world coming soon that he would move to Cincinnati, as everything there happens ten years later than everywhere else.

It's pretty much that way here too, except for the politics of IL....LOL.....:p.
