I use 100% VG juice and I accepted the fact that I'd never even try and vape anything before 24 hours of soaking ever again.

When I built my first Subtank RBA I tried it right away and had dry hits. Didn't change anything, just let it sit there like that for a day. Now it works great.

Every video I see the guy finishes his build, puts juice on it, and goes to town. That doesn't work for me, not on pre-made coils, and not on my own.

I'm being lazy and don't want to read back. Did you mention what kind of cotton you're using? There really is a difference, especially on the "breaking in."
Japanese organic cotton. The taste has improved after this short while or maybe my beer has changed the taste lol

there are several things that come from rebuilding.

    Consistency in vaping experience

Building different resistance coils for better flavor.

Saving a boat load of money by rebuilding.

    That feeling of accomplishment.

When I built my first coil years ago I was so nervous I was shaking. Thought the thing would electrocute me. That's how much knowledge of this stuff I had lol. I have been building coils of all types since then. It was a great feeling when the first one actually worked, I was ecstatic. Today I built my first coil on the subtank mini since I recently got these. It is the easiest thing I have built so far. Hang in there it just gets easier but if you never try you will get nowhere.

Well done! And great tip on moistening the wick with beer to get it tasting better.:D

I have to say I never had luck building on those little rba's. Maybe it's my fat fingers or my lack of patience. Now that you solved the mystery of successfully building and wicking your own coil, you might want to consider a regular RTA. Way easier to build on with tons of space for the coil and wick, and depending on your age, all you might need are some reading glasses instead of these:

These are way cool though, especially with the little LEDs on them.

You know what they say, tenacity is a virtue. Okay so maybe they don't really say that but be thankful your early attempts aren't with S.S. mesh wicks.
omg, the mesh...yuck. I quit building cause I hated it so much. Torching it and all that was way too fiddly and never tasted right to me.

The way I do the STM is to pull the wick thru the coil.
The replace the coul housing working the wick ends up thru the housing.
Hold an end of the wick straight up and cut off just above the housing top edge.
Do the other side them poke both sides down in making sure that the cotton covers the wick holes in each side.
I usually do a 2.4 mm ID coil in the STM. A 3mm is a bit tight and can short on the chimney when you reassemble it.

When using cotton, you want it to have a lil wiggle room, as it swells when wet. With rayon, you'll want it to fit tighter than cotton, because it doesn't swell when wet.
I would suggest getting a coil winding tool when the checkbook permits, if ya don't have one already :)

Yup, great job. Coil winding tool and patience is all you need for a good vape.

A couple of things I learned the hard way: once wicked to your liking, saturate that sucker. Give it a quick hit with your mod and re- saturate. Also, I have found (and it may just be a delusion) is that I need to remove the top and bottom of the Japanese cotton pads, the hard layer of the cotton, the bread of the cotton sandwich. I firmly believe I get a different taste as well as different wicking???

Mesh is dead easy to work with. It's all I use.
