Or, if you're sick of Windows, I'd suggest saving up for an Apple computer with the apple OS.

Because the user population of Windows is much larger, much of the adware and viruses affect those computers, and stuff isn't designed as frequently to harm computers with Apple's OS.

When viruses are released, Apple always creates an update very shortly after to combat these, but the great thing is it doesn't need a million updates like Windows does.

For someone who doesn't open up their computer and change components, it's a very smart move ;)

Well it also depends what kind of windows running computer you have. but to be honest, even though it's expensive, at least the parts work, and with applecare, apple will replace everything that breaks, and with excellent customer service here in north america.

my personal experience is that my apple computer has held up much better than my old dell. the dell fell apart on me through constant use and the macbook in comparison is still in one piece after almost 3 years. :) the dell's hinge broke, the screen was coming apart because the screws fell out, the disk drive cover broke off, and the keys popped off... never had these problems with the macbook. :)

so, in my own opinion it's actually worth the investment.

it's also worth noting that I have not had problems with adware or viruses and any type of malware since switching, as I mentioned before.

One suggestion is switch to linux
With linux you wont need anti virus or malware protection

If you stay with windows the best firewall

http://....../NRQmTM

Ffor anti virus

http://....../YNqsEM

For malware

http://....../gRMlZR

All free and top notch programs
With a little care they will stop 99.9% of infections

AVG is lightweight and works great. Malware Bytes also works great. All depends on what you are trying to achieve as far as protection. The best protection against viruses and such is user knowledge. Learn what not to do while on your computer. That is the best protection. An antivirus program is a small part of keeping your computer and info safe.

I had great luck with Avast for an AV, and it can talk like a pirate. Malware Bytes is a great free program for removing, well, malware.

I just switched my Luddite stepdad to Linux Mint and he seems to be doing great with it. I partitioned the hard drive so he has a separate home area for re installs or upgrades. He was a clicker and I needed to get him off of Win XP.
