So far, only two people have ever had the nerve to presume to lecture me on vaping. My crack addict uncle (yes, seriously) and my mother in law who tried vaping herself and was unable to quit smoking with it. I just smiled and nodded. It isn't worth arguing about with some people. After all, my uncle is a crack addict, and my mother in law is set in her ways and a bit afraid of technology in general. She calls me over to her house to turn her computer on for her so she can play solitare.

As already noted on this thread, post #25 has the correct answer. Just calmly ask where they got that information from. If there is genuine interest in discussion, the proceed to educate. If there is little desire for that sort of education, laugh and let it go.

If talking with someone that quacks like an ANTZ, then reserve public rants specifically for these people. Be as nice as possible. But as confident as possible that science, thus far, isn't supporting their pathetic take on things.

My friends uncle came up to me this weekend and told me that vaping was bad. I asked why? He told me because they put weed in there. I gave him the most dumbfounded look in the world. Told him who the hell is putting weed in my juice? I pointed to my buddies smoking analogs and said those are bad also but your not telling them.

Took a vape and showed him some clouds on the dripper. If there is weed in here I would be coughing.

When my father (a 1 pack a day smoker) first saw me vaping, he first told me they were illegal and then told me they were unsafe. 1 week later a good friend of his stopped by and talked to my father about his new found way to quite smoking and how he has not even craved for a smoke.

Guess what, my father now vapes!

I have found that some people need to see a close peer they trust vaping before they will actually "hear" what is in the juice an how it is another way to stop smoking.

Recently I was visiting family and my father kept harping on me about my ecig. "What about all those chemicals" he kept asking. I explained that I make my own juice and told him exacty what was in it and he still was skeptical and suggested I just quit altogether. Then I just said, this is my body and my mind, you, nor anyone else has the right to dictate what I do with my body or my mind, they are mine to do with as I please. End of discussion.

I'm often approached by smokers asking about what I'm doing. Most people have never seen a real mod like a Smok Zmax, which is what I vape, so I'm happy to explain it's an electronic cigarette. There's a hotel adjoined to my office and there was a convention that included military and civilian uniformed service people. I was stunned to see so many young good looking obviously worked out people lighting up cigarettes (I'm much older and from the generation where smoking wasn't considered such a a bad thing). One young man walked up to me after lighting up a Marlboro Red and literally confronted me with a barrage of propaganda about how dangerous it was to use an e-Cig. And this is while he's taking long drags off a Marlboro. I wasn't in the mood to have an argument, so I just said he could keep his death sticks, with thousands of cancer causing chemicals and I'll keep mine with 4 not lethal chemicals and I walked away.

Otherwise, people are usually more curious and happy to speak with me about how long I've been vaping and if I ever smoke real cigarettes. I don't - EVER.

i know that this is constantly brought up i just really need to rant and let some steam off. since i started vaping there has been at least 30 people, some of which are complete strangers who decided to confront me out in public, who have tried to explain to me that e cigarettes are bad and that they are not healthy. NOBODY. IS. CLAIMING. THAT. THEY. ARE. HEALTHY. people don't understand that nobody is claiming that e cigarettes and vaping are healthy. we are claiming that it is helathiER than traditional tobacco cigarettes. then they try to tell me that people don't know all the crazy chemicals that go into e-liquid. in which case i pull out a bottle of e liquid and list them. propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, nicotine, flavoring. thats it. then they start scratching their heads and they don't know what to do after being so blatantly disproved that they get angry and just say "whatever man that crap isn't healthy." i mean how ignorant and stupid can people be. there haven't been any studies showing negative effects of e liquid but lets just say for arguments sake that e liquid is bad for you. i would much rather put 4 dangerous chemicals into my lungs and have no noticeable short term health effects such as coughing and getting sick, then smoke a cigarette and put 2000+ known cancer causing chemicals in my lungs and wake up every morning gasping for air. like i don't understand why anybody would make the argument that they are bad for you. clearly inhaling anything besides air into your lungs is not a safe decision but it is much better than cigarettes. would these people rather me be like "oh wow your right these things must be bad I'm gonna go buy a pack of marlboro reds." like i was a smoker which 9/10 times is a death sentence and now i vape. be happy that I'm not smoking cigarettes. jesus christ. I'm sorry for ranting and raving it just pisses me off so badly when people try to talk about something and give an opinion about it with absolutely no research and absolutely no facts to back up the statements they make. I'm sorry for this pointless post but i needed to get this all off my chest in a healthy way before i put one of these people in the hospital. alright then. i feel better. wheres my mod at....

Yeah, it's like they forget they're out in public and no longer on an anonymous message board. I've been vaping in public places for 2-1/2 years. Nobody has dared to approach me spewing ignorant blather and it would not go well for them if they did. Unless they were bigger than me.

Also a good example of why I should not be allowed in public as my sarcasm is over the legal limit. As in this time before I started vaping I was in the grocery and some woman said (unprompted mind you) to her child in a loud voice as they went by, "We can smell his smoke can't we?"

I said, "And we can see your flab too!"

And kept going...

(There are studies, actually, which show that obesity actually shortens life more than smoking does. No, I'm serious.)
