Thanks nerak, I just saw the Saturday bumps for all the Reos on the classifieds. And wow, that is some really light anodizing. Might as well have been clear or just not done!

Here is a pic of the anodized silver on the left and the tumbled on the right.

Thanks Nerak. I saw the tumbled, but I figured that was just a different finish altogether. Mine isn't quite as smooth as the first one, it has some scratches and such and just isn't as smooth as the door. Like I
said, that is some thin anodizing!

Well I can't wait till the next batch come in. I was thinking of trying to remove the anodizing from the mini and leaving it bare or polishing it. Has anyone done this before? I bought it to be used out and about, but I can see the chips annoying me when it is sitting on the desk! And I do love to tinker....

You'll be glad the silver is anodized as it gives some of the character of the tumbled but has enough coating to preserve the look. I love the tumbled but if you ever want to remove even a tiny scratch the gentle process will give you a very noticeable shiny area that doesn't match the rest of the REO. That bothered me when I did that so turned the tumbled into a polished which can be a nightmare for those OCD enough to stress over every finger print.

I have gadget "skins" for my Tumbleds (and others) that preserves the look but protects them at the same time.

If the chips are annoying you might want to try some model paint from a hobby store. You have to use a very tiny brush and apply just enough that the paint flows into the gouge, chip, scratch and not over the edge of flaw onto the rest. It takes a little practice so have some thinner to remove any boo-boos.

Take your REO to the Hobby store with you to get best match. You can also mix colors to achieve the best match. White and Black will take colors up and down respectively. Do testing first on something non absorbing like a coin and let dry to make sure you have the correct color. BTW... the shininess of REO anodizing varies by batch. Some of the model paint comes in either shiny or buff.

....picking your color combination?

Howdy folks! I have been on the fence about trying a bottom feeder. I was going to buy a cheapie box mod to see if I like it or not. Then I thought about it. The chances of me not liking it are slim, that would be money wasted, maybe I should just go straight to the top.

I have been having a blast with my VV's lately, and was going to wait for the VV Grand. But I bought a Bolt on sale, liked it alright, added an extender, liked it more, popped in my 4.8v NiMH, liked it more. So I figure I am good with a fixed voltage mod.

So I go to the Reo website, fully expecting everything to be out of stock. Nope, good selection of Grands; just what I wanted. Started looking at color combinations. Found my fave. Thought about it. Went back. Found my new fave, but it wasn't available, found my next fave combo. Figured I would wait til payday. Went back a few more times before then. Every time I find a different combo I like (thank heavens they all aren't in stock; actually I would have went with silver/green from the get-go), and it changes almost every day.

Anyway, I am pretty sure a silver body with some colored door will be my pick, as this will be my work mod, and it is not a very forgiving environment. I even thought about the tumbled, but I want some color to it.

Well, that is all. I guess I will go back again and see what is there, and try to settle on one I have to have. It was payday after all....

I spent almost all day yesterday hoping, just hoping that another black/copper vein 18490 would pop up as available but alas, no joy. I spent the rest of the time trying to decide what other color combination I wanted but it was a tough choice because they ALL looked good, just not my first choice. :) I finally "settled" on the black/silver combination and pretty stoked that it will be here on Monday! I have a brand new kick that I'm going to toss in it and that will become my out and about PV. Not my first REO and I'm still waiting on the VVgrands to become available. :) It's neverending! :)
