So many choices, unsure what to buy.

I had been vaping for almost two years when my ego starter kit batteries finally just couldn't hold a charge anymore (650 mAh). Being stingy I decided to just stop altogether and end up going what I see on the forums as "analog". Trying to make a decision on what to get with so many choices now a days is starting to make my head spin.


I was using just the standard 510 atomizer for about 6 months, but for some reason I always seemed to kill them even when I was cautious not to dry vape. Switched over to a 3.5 ml vivi nova tank and used several of them in a span of a year and a half. Always seemed to have a problem with them also, either they would crack from the eliquid (tried to stay away from the ones listed as bad on mtbakervapor) or after 4-5 days of use the flavor would become extremely mild. I also tried several resistances and the 1.8 ohm seemed to work the best for me. I went to the local shops for help but the people at each one seemed to be just as clueless on how to solve the problem.


I planned on buying the ehpro sentinel and octopus rda from madvapes until I read on the forums that it is not a good idea till I try a variable voltage/wattage battery. It was going to end up costing me around 80 bucks for everything I needed plus backups.


So now I am unsure what to buy. I greatly appreciate any help I can get in what to buy and where to buy it from. Oh and if you buy your eliquid online where do you buy it from? I always like to see if I can get a better deal.

I have set people in my family up with the MVP V2 and they are loving it with the new kanger areo tanks. My cousin just up graded to a provari. I recommend grab your self a MVP and areo tank and have at it. See if it's what you like. As for juice online try kbeevapor. $10 30ml. I get their juice often. I also use my baker vapor.

What to buy depends on a few things - what do you want to spend? Do you want an APV that uses separate rechargeable batteries or do you want it to have its own internal battery? What shape is more interesting to you- boxes or tubes (or is either shape a deal breaker?)? Battery Life?

If you want to stay in the $50 range - you can go MVP2 or be fairly close with a Vamo V5. Give us some more details and we can help a bit more

As far as having muted flavors after 4-5 days - rinsing every tank or so with hot water and an occasional dryburn will help prolong the life of your coil heads. My guess is the juice is either dark or sweet - those always gunk up and end coil life on the faster end as opposed to clear liquids with little to no sweetener.

My vendors aren't ridiculously expensive - but they certainly aren't any places to get a better deal than MtBaker. I order a few favorite flavors and DIY other things to make up for the difference. I use GoodLife, Mister-E and Roar.

I just helped my buddy get started actually. He was using the EGO starter, but wanted something more. A simple VV setup IMO is just a nice Vamo V5 with 2 Panasonic NCR18650B Super Max batteries (~$55 + shipping). As for a tank, it can support the Kanger up to a small genesis tank or dripper setup, just keep the oHms above 1.3. He's loving it. He already wants to upgrade to an RSST or dripper.

As for the trying out a VV before moving on to Mechs is personal opinions, I went straight from an EGO-T w/25mg Nic to an Atom Mech w/AGA-T2 & 18mg Nic and haven't looked back. Sure there's a bit of a learning curve, but just do your homework and you're golden.

If the sizes of the vamo and mvp2 dont do it for you, look into the iTaste VV v3. Its tall but not huge and accepts 510 and ego threading. Perfect stepping stone IMO.

Hello I hear you on being cheap. The MVP is a cheap setup, however the battery is built in. Maybe look into something with replaceable batteries. You mentioned Madvapes. Variable Volt E-Cigs, Variable Volt Vaporizers | MadVapes

I just bought an innokin itaste svd and love it. I was not getting the hit I needed from the ego w/ t3s tanks. I upgraded to this and oh man defiantly worth it. Its like holding a lightsaber not going to lie about that. But defiantly gives me everything I was looking for!

I'd like to spend less than 100 on a new setup, but not sure if that is possible.

Shapes really don't impact my feelings towards a unit. I mean it could be in the shape of a shoe for all I care, as long as it performs well.
The thing I am worried about is I had two batteries, so when one of them died I always had the other ready to go. I checked out the Vamo v5 but it seems that the sites I look at them have them for around 60 then I still need good rechargeable batteries, charger, tank, and etc.. At the same time an APV like that could allow me to have full use of one unit all the time.

I see the general concensus is a Vamo v5 with some sort of Kanger tank. Although I have no idea how one person was able to buy a Vamo v5 and two of those panasonic batteries for around $55 + shipping. I mean all I am seeing is the Vamo for 55+ alone.

Whatever you decide to buy, keep a back up handy. If your 650's are holding for now, that'd do. Otherwise, keep a back up. Ego, anything.

I'd seriously invest in a glass or steel tank if you like flavors that crack tanks. No worries there!

I would take suggestions from members and then do a research on it. Narrow it down to what fits your needs. Then look at various vendor sites at cost. Also look to see if they offer a discount using a coupon.

There are some very good apv's/mods at great prices. I own the Vamo v5, Zmax Mini, SID and Provari mini.

I was really surprised when I picked up my mini PT2. I have two or three full size PT2 that always, without fail, gurgle below the half full mark. The mini has never gurgled/flooded. It's a great little topper and the pyrex is good for all types of liquids.

I'd recommend keeping it simple. eGo twists or Vision Spinners with some mini clearos or carto tanks. It's a super portable format that does not cost too much. Especially since you should already have the chargers and other related gear.

I personally enjoy and feel i get a good vape out of the glass Aspire Vivi Nova style tanks.

As far as liquids go, you probably will have a pretty hard time finding a "better deal" out there then MBV. But you also might find paying the extra few dollars on juice worthwhile while checking out some of the more talked about vendors on this board (Heather's, Ahlusion, Nicoticket, ect). At worst it's worth finding out for yourself, if you have not already done so.

It's always good to have one VV/VW mod before getting fully mod, so that you can check resistance of your atty when doing recoilling..

I don't see the need for mechs these days unless you are a die-hard cloud chaser. With a vv unit you can use all the clearos and cartos you want, dial 'em in as you like, and still get plenty of use out of rebuildables should you decide to go that route. (Do your research before going that way!!!) In these days of microcoil and cotton builds, there's little need for the typical vaper to go sub-ohm, so you might as well stick with the customization and protection of a vv or vv/vw unit. The MVP and SVD are both solid units for the money, I'd recommend either over the Vamo or SID, and if you are willing to invest a little more money, the Provari is hard to beat for long term reliability and performance.

If the EGO's worked for you for that long then I would just stay in that ball park if it were me. That is just my opinion. They are very cheap and super easy to find every where even locally. But if you want something more I cannot help but recommend much higher priced gear only because you seemed to be disappointed that two years was bad life from the EGO's you owned before.... and only because you seem to have a high standard for longevity...(nothing bad meant by this FYI)...I think that is outstanding they lasted that long as your stand alone devices. I had many of them in the early going go bad much much faster than that. So a PV that had the ability of changing the battery on the go was my first "upgrade" if you will.

These days it has been a long time since I have used variable devises so I wont be of much input based on experience for you there. I would spend the money on a solid proven device if it was me.

For a topper I cannot help but recommend a BDC clearo of any type. Might be more, but that will pay off as well IMO If you want to be able to clean out and maintain a coil setup longer than definitely go the RBA of any type route hand down. Learning curve it will have but pay big in allot of ways for you.

As far as liquid, I do like a few vendors by choice like JV and Alien Visions....These company's have juice that I vape ALOT of everyday and I never have any issues with flavor and fall off. I also can say that I have tried most of the mentioned liquids in prior posts either...... so not knocking those vendors.

I made the move to variable voltage about 2 months after I started vaping. I paid $70 for my genuine ego-c starter kit but I wish I had mentor or ECF back then before I did it. Don't get me wrong it wasn't a waste of money and I still use it but in all honesty I would have been better off starting with a cheap VV battery.

Just doing a quick google search 1500mAh Ego Twist VV Variable Voltage Battery 1500 mAh Free Shipping | eBay for $25 or even this one for $5 New Ego C Twist CE5 1100mAh VV Vape Vaporizer Pen Starter Kit Clearomizer | eBay I think I would have been just as satisfied if not more satisfied than my $70 genuine ego-c starter kit...just for the mere fact that they have Variable Voltage.

Since you have been vaping for 2 years, I have no qualms about suggesting a VV for you to use. I would recommend the above for new vapors and even recommend that for you as a cheap way for you to get your foot in the door to VV. Down the road you may want to look into a MVP2, Vamo, or Provaria type setup but I see absolutely nothing wrong with going for a cheap $5 route as apposed to a $70 for starters. I'm sure others will be on here that disagree but that's my 2 cents.

You'll find it cheaper to buy in bulk but that's the best way I've found to test out flavors/vendors. Be prepared for a long delivery but I even use fasttech and buy 50ml bottles for $4.50-$5.00. Watermellon and Redbull are the ones I use most frequently and is dirt cheap compared to other places.

As for a tank/clearomizer I'll leave that to someone else that is more opinionated/knowledgeable than myself.

Mt. Baker Vapor has decent liquid for cheap. Same price range but IMO better juice is D&D Vapor. A little pricier, but very good juice is Good Life Vapor (Deadly Sin and Melon Boba are faves), Moon Mountain, Heather's Heavenly Vapes has some good tobaccos and bakery type, and my personal ADV is Grumpy's Hooch from S&S Mods. There's a freakin' ton of juice vendors out there, most priced WAY lower than B&M's, and most have pretty good deals for sample packs, check out the ECF vendor list and shop around, you are bound to find something you like.
