I have had a limited amount of success doing this. I've had a heck of a time getting the metal clip out without pulling the coil out. There is a little bit of some sort of fabric under the heating coil and that to me is what you want out of there. Use a toothpick and very carefully reach under the coil and pick that fabric out. This will help a great deal to get rid of a burnt taste so that is the first thing I do with a new attie. Plus it's easier to clean.

Whoa! Hold the phone!

If you're talking about the wick, you're right...but it shouldn't be below the coil. If you're talking about the mesh below the coil, you don't want to puncture that. juice will run right through your atty.

1. Get a tweezers
2. Use the tweezers to push the wire mesh that covers the bridge out of the way
3. Use the tweezers to press the bridge together and gently remove - It should just pop right out
4. Remove the mesh and any of the wick that may still be there
5. Enjoy! :D
