So now I have a Chi You and a Nemesis. I have a couple of questions.

A forum member sent me a Chi You and I can't believe the quality of this, the only issue that it has is the magnets in the button are not strong enough. Where do you guys get the good ones? I looked and there are only two when everything I have seen says to use 3 or 4 of them. Alternately, I would like to replace the spring and fore-go the magnets completely. If I did that though I would like to find a way to make the throw a little longer.

About the Nemesis, do any of you drill the air holes larger so the battery has better venting? Last question. I have the brass version and I love it except for the speed at which it tarnishes. Has anyone polished theirs and put a clear coat on it to keep it shiny? I am not concerned about the threads or inside just the visible parts of the tube. Thanks everyone for your help.

Polishing brass is easy as pie. If you want a basic metal polishing primer, I can give you one.

As far as clear coating, I wouldn't it's a PITA when its time to re polish, and won't keep dings or scuffs from making a re polish necessary at some point.

Instead, get some Birchwood Casey Gunstock wax. Use a soft leather or microfiber cloth to apply, and rub, rub, rub. between 3-5 coatings, because they will rub on microscopically thin. This leaves the look and feel of just the raw brass in your hand (won't look like a wax coating) but will really go a long way towards preventing the patina from forming. Once a month or so you can refresh the coat if you like, but it probably won't be entirely necessary.

So would I polish before or not? Never used waxes like that. And thank you

many expensive mod owners use a metal treatment called sharkskin, after polishing with something like brasso. not cheap but pretty bullet proof and was originally designed for use on boats so it lasts a long time.

i wouldnt worry about drilling out the vents. in most bottom button mods you can take off the top cap and blow into the mod and see plenty of air can escape around the buttons.

on the nemi if you are talking about the airholes in the top cap those are for the 510 connector so you can flushmount tanks.

polishing is the process of using either a very mild abrasive, or a very mild caustic, or both, to remove outer metal (incredibly small amounts at a time) leaving an even finish of bare, fresh, unoxygenated metal.

You would polish before applying the wax.

Personally, were I polishing one of these, I would start real aggressive, at like a 600 grit paper. Then again, I've been polishing various metals for a long time now. In your shoes, I'd say a 1200 grit paper, followed by a 2000 grit, then either brasso or flitz (both are metal polishes that are a cream base, with incredibly small, fine abrasive particles suspended in the cream). approached properly, this will make your mod shine like a liquid mirror. The wax goes on after polishing, to prevent oxygen from getting to the metal surface, which is what forms the patina of tarnish you don't like.

SHOP - FatDaddyVapes.com - Home of the best vaping equipment, eliquids, and supplies!!! get my Magnets from here. I have his CHI YOU and they fit and work well. I use SharksSkin. I also use a buffing wheel on my cordless drill from time to time epically on my Brass mods Im the opposite of Thrasher I like my stuff shinny!

PS the Sony 2100s are nice battery's for mechs also
I am familiar with Fatdaddy he has a pretty good Ebay presence. I couldn't find sharkskin, but I did find a product called sharkhide metal treatment, is that it? I'll avoid a buffing wheel or any type of sand paper. I just want it to stay shiny. I am not looking to turn it into a mirror. As far as batteries go I got a pair of mnke 30/60 amp 18650s. I would not buy anything less. I hear the sony's are nice as well. I actually didn't lock the firing button the other day and stood it up on my dining table for about 5-7 minutes. When I grabbed it the atty was hot enough it ruined the o-rings I expected the battery to be hot but it wasn't even warm yet. I also wasn't running any rediculous coil either.

yea sharkhide thats it lol

it is a wipe on clearcoat that is pretty tough, not cheap though

I wonder if that stuff would take care of the brass smell that keeps rubbing off on my hands with my sentinel clone. That and the button unscrewing are why the thing is in the vapocalypse box and not in use.

Nemesis Venting - 3 holes, PLUS 3 Slots in the main switch. Unscrew and look at the switch. No need to modify, just use decent IMR batteries.

Chi magnets - Place a Nylon washer under the lower magnet. this will place the magnets closer and boost the repelling fields increasing support without increasing switch tension.

You ain't kidding. That cost more than my mod. LOL. I could just buy a second one to bust out for pictures.
I'm out on a 14 day assignment that just got extended to 60 days with a 75 day cap but..... next time I'm home I'll check and see if I have any Sharkhide left. We had the pontoons on my wife's boat polished this summer and treated them with Sharkhide (and you think its expensive to do a mod). I do believe there was a few ounces left in the last bottle and as far as I know it's out in the shop.

If I do happen to have some and your still looking for something I'll send you a small bottle.

Personally nothing to me looks better than a really well used brass mod with a heavy patina.

It needs the extra tension. I may try and see what the nylon washer will do but this button depresses extremely easy. I think it's got some really low grade magnets in there.

Hey thanks. I was in Newton once about 5 years ago. I used to sell supplemental health insurance to Farmers and that was one of the cities I called on. The last one in fact. I had just had a little girl and our group would travel to a town and work it for a week at a time. I couldn't stand being gone that much. There is great money in it if you can stand to travel like that. I wasn't cut out for it.

Well I have a house, family, shop and everything usually associated with home in Newton but I'm not there much any more. My work (part time truck driver and part time pilot) takes me all over the US and the world. Just like right now I left on a 14 day "Special Assignment" but 5 days into it they extended me to 60 with a cap at 75. Nothing like kissing the wife telling her you'll see her in a couple weeks only to have to call her and tell her it's now going to be a couple months. Maybe that's why we've been married for so long....or she's just really tolerant as long as the direct deposit is in her checking account every month.
