State of Confusion
I just set mine up. Made an awful coil the first time but did well on my second. My wick ritual was a bit abbreviated due to my typical American patience. I'm still working through a bit of an off taste, and the tank metal is getting a bit warmer than I expected. But it seems to be working pretty well for me. It is absolutely beautiful and well-made!

Ok, came up with an additional problem, my little s-wire wasn't secure enough either. Substituted a small peice of plastic tubing and it is now fastened tight. I seem to have beaten the off taste, I washed everything in hot water and switched to the metal tank. I think I was tasting some residue from an o-ring somehow. Its hitting really nice, the draw seems to have loosened a little since first use.

State of Confusion
I just rebuilt my positive connection using a #00 washer and a CE2 carto post (no s wire used) and have a MUCH more solid connection. I was getting good performance but the atty would not fire on my VV, so I suspected a partial short. After rebuild I'm firing on my VV without issues. I will try to post some pictures later today.

edit: First, take your #00 washer and cut a chunk out of it so that it will seat in the bottom of the housing with the bolt thread sticking through. Get it seated nice and snug then place the little washer chunk or some sort of insulating material in the hole in the middle of the washer. Cut a CE2 carto post off so that you only have the battery connector end. Wedge the CE2 batt end, wider side down into the hole on top of the insulating material inside the washer. It should be tough to wedge in but will make great contact with the bolt. Get it as vertical as you can and screw on the brass fitting. Done!

edit: having trouble with picture closeup quality, this is the final result:

poland, and the brassy lands of google
G-tank landed in Malaysia! Still tinkering with the kanthal and mesh.
I'm always getting the combustion chamber flooded with juice. :( Any tips guys?
using 16mm x 32mm #400 SS mesh with 36ga kanthal. vapor production is nice when it's not flooded.

Sounds like the wick is too loose in the hole. Are you using a 20G needle in the center? You can expand the wick you have now by running the needle through it too.

Mine is getting pretty comfortable now that I've had some time to play with it more. Will I ruin the 701 tip by removing it? I heard they are on there pretty tight.

Cos, Otrem, Dudeman and anyone else waiting, you guys will get them, and it is well worth the wait. It's a holiday, go bbq somebody :)

I only have 18g needle atm. Is it too big? Wick is not too tight in the hole. I'll try expanding the wick a bit.
And yes, the machined parts is very nicely done. Threads are one of the nicest ones I've seen on SS parts.

I opened the tip and it is tight but mainly because of the o-ring that's on the tip itself. after the o-ring it glides off easily. Just be careful not to cross thread it when putting it back together since the SS thread will cut the plastic thread like butter...

I hadn't noticed the o-ring yet :)

A 18G is 1.27mm and a 20G is .90mm, so probably too big. Sturm swears by the 20G and I won't argue. Also if the wick fits in the hole below the coil, it is probably too loose in the hole for the tank. And yes these threads rock. And I'm liking the SS tank too, great fit.

w00t! I found a 20g silver wire while rummaging through my stash... and yes it's slightly less than 1mm diameter.

Are you saying that the SS wick will taper bigger at the top compare to the bottom? hmm. I'll try that now.

18 x 35 mm is what I thought I saw captioned on the video, thats what I've been using, and have been rolling around a paper clip. My wick fits fairly snug in the hole.

Just finished cutting new SS wick at 18mm x 35mm. Thanks for pointing this out mjmetz :thumb:
