I know this is a stupid question....... but I've been very satisfied with my rta's, they perform great.... I love the vape, I rotate between my kayfun 3.1, KFL+, Taifun GT and Aqua.... Cotton wick, 2mm coil (not sure if that qualifies as micro or macro), a good juice and I'm in vape nirvana, and I might add I find that I vape pretty much all freaking day long... way more than I ever smoked cigars (never did smoke cigarettes).

Anyway, I want to cloud chase.... I'm sure many vapers (if not all?) chase clouds at some point and time in their journey.... Its the challenge of the build and I dunno, it gives me something to want to do and briefly focus on besides worrying about life's bills, and other depressing moments ;) at least for a little while.

ANYWAY, I've got 2 dripper clones right now, a nimbus and a helios both from fasttech. The helios which has 4 posts, only had 1 air hole  so I drilled a second air hole on the other side to do dual coils.... ironically the Nimbus with 3 post had 4 air holes  I guess the fasttech guys have a sense of humor... I dunno. Anyway I drilled out the air holes on both drippers, dont remember the size, but they're pretty sizeable, and have (what I consider) crazy easy draw - lots of air flow....I'll post some pictures later.

So cloud chasing, I'm seriously impressed with the difference in vapor production from a 0.3 to 0.5 ohm sub ohm dripper vs a tank... and its seriously intense... and I'm vaping 6mg.... same juice in a tank vape, no problem.... dripper vape = nic buzz. Pretty crazy. :vapor:

On to my question, seems like drippers (clones) are generally inexpensive, Most under $20. I've seen a few reviews of RDAs like the Stillaire, Magma, Castle, Kat, 3D, Tobh, and several others whose names escape me right now. Not sure buying another one would even accomplish anything better or worse... The reason I mention my current ones and the site of origin (FT) is I'm 99% sure the insides are chromed brass as I've had them sitting around for months and never cared, as I was chasing my perfect tank vape.

So would buying a new modern dripper, perhaps one made of all ss or copper (if such a dripper exists?) would that improve my chances for better cloud chasing? If so, which is the current one to get? Most of my local shops arent carrying any cool stuff (yet) so I'll be ordering online.

I've been doing a 2/3 wrap of 26ga on a 2mm bit, dual coils ends up about 0.3ohm according to my DMM. And I'm using a nemesis (clone) with was said to be silver plated pins, but I've read the more likely scenario on the nemesis pins are they are chromed brass... Not sure who's the manufacture, but I put magnets in the switch, ditched the springs and noalox'd all the threads except the locking ring. Powering the mech with a pair of Sony VTC4's 2100mAh batteries (which dont last long vaping .3 sub ohm).

Sorry for the long post, but I'm trying to explain my situation and trying to improve my weak link to get the clouds I've seen online........ Yeah I know, flavor vs cloud.... I'm being honest, I'm cloud chasing in the house, and would maybe like to ho visit my fav local vape shop and kind of be cool by fogging the place out :D

So what's the RDA of choice right now for cloud chasing? or should I consider a new mech too?

I've tried to measure the voltage drop using my little in line volt meter attachment, and if I start with a 4.2v battery unloaded, I'm seeing like <3.6v under a .3ohm load..... if thats the way to test voltage drop, that seems like a lot of drop??.

Suggestions for new gear would be appreciated from those in the know.... links can easily be pm'd to me since I'm sure posting publicly is probably frowned upon (?)

Thanks for the patience and reading this, and I look forward to reading the replies!!!!

APO by ghetto mods is pretty popular with the cloud chasers. Or you could get a patriot and drill out the air holes.

A new RBA comes out every week, it seems, and honestly I can never tell the difference between last week's hit and this week's. The only one that was a (somewhat) "game changer" was the magma.

I agree with this. I'm not a cloud chaser, per se. I like a combination of good flavor and nice thick vapor. But I like to collect things, so I have a decent collection of RDAs. It's more about the build, and the juice (heavy on the VG, or 100%) than it is the device. For cloud chasing, you need good air flow, good wicking, a low resistance build, and big lungs. Just about any RDA can be a cloud machine, if it's set up right.

I love my Magma. In the 3mm, dual air hole mode, with dual 28 gauge twisted wire, I built it to 0.3 ohms. It's 6 wraps around a 5/64th drill bit on both coils. I can chuck it with that set up.

After vaping on that set up for about 1 hour, and mist-ifying my whole house, I did drop it back to the 2mm dual air holes. While the clouds were great, the flavor was kinda meh. The 2mm air holes give me considerably more flavor and still blows out respectable clouds.

Call me crazy... But I still love my Nimbus for when I'm craving clouds.

Quad coil, 28awg 0.2 ohm...

Good God... It's an actual hazard to use while driving, unless my windows are down... And makes 6mg liquid WAY to strong.

I have a nimbus (chimbus anyway) I'd love to see some build pictures of that.... quad coil :)

That 4-airhole Chimbus is pretty legit for clouds if you go to 3/32" (~2.5mm) each and can work with being limited to dual 28 gauge coils.

I'm still going to have to put another word in for the Stillare, I have an original and the clone from fasttech without a driptip and the steel posts (the 2nd version available there, I believe), and they're both just wonderful.

The magma looks pretty interesting, but seems more geared for flavor............ do you stuff those wells with cotton, or just kind of dip the cotton in there to let it wick up? Also seems like if would very easily leak fluid? if not held up perfectly straight up?

With the 3mm air holes, the magma definitely is one of my best cloud machines. Before that, my Omega clone, built the same way (0.3 ohm dual twisted 28ga) was my cloud chasing set up.

The way I wick mine is to dip the cotton legs into the juice well. I have dripped as much as 30 drops in there without leaking. The way the bottom fed air holes work, you won't get too much leaking unless you left it sideways. I will warn you, because the Magma has a screw on top cap and no o-rings, you will get juice in between the AFC ring and the sides of the deck, but it has never leaked out of my device. I just unscrew the top cap and wipe down the AFC ring on occasion.

Because of the way the airflow works, bottom fed air like a Kayfun, vertical coils right over the airholes works really great for chucking it.
