The protection will kick in if you drain it too much, but it's not a good idea let it drain until the protection kicks in. You should never really let an 18650 go below 3.7 volts. If you're not going to use a multimeter, I suggest topping it off every day.

How about an IMR 18650?

Same for IMR, except you have to be more careful not to over drain them because of the lack of protection (nothing to prevent them from overdrain) I check my IMR's with a multimeter every few hours.

My Jets Chuck is born! Only I asked for white caps and they are black. Maybe I typed black when I meant white? Looks good with the black caps, but the Jets' colors are green and white. It shipped already, guess I will have to send it back to Jeff to get the caps redone. Looks great though.
