My question is: Why soak your coils? I torch the wires before winding them, as in getting them RED hot. After wrapping them and before putting wick in, on, or under then I dry fire them to check for hot spots or shorts or to squeeze then together if that is the shape I want. There is no oil left on them. You can rinse them off before use also. There is no reason to soak.

For Protank coils, I use to just throw the whole thing, chimney and all, into a small cup of vodka and leave it sitting in it overnight. Next day, I rinse it well with warm water, shake the excess water off, and lay it on a paper towel to dry.

I've used this method when switching strong flavors like a mentholy fruit blend to an Irish Cream eliquid and haven't had a problem before.

Nowadays, I rebuild my PT coils, so I don't even need to do that. I just rinse the coil under warm water and rewick.

I soak the coils/bases for my Terminator TT's in Everclear. I let them soak overnight, and then dry-burn them. I have TT coils that I've been able to keep going for nearly a year this way, not even re-wicking them.

Of course, MD just passed a law making the sale of Everclear illegal after 1 July, so I'll either have to stock up, or drive all the way to NC to get the stuff. IT works WAY better than vodka, because it's almost pure alcohol, and a fantastic solvent. (Wouldn't drink the stuff on a dare, though...)
