Just got my Protege today. It's a great device. My only gripe with the Protege is that it is an absolute PITA to screw the battery cap onto the Protege, especially with a protected battery. Here's a pic in my hand:

It is smaller than what you think it is.

Here's a pic comparing it to the size of other products:

From left to right, a 14500 battery, Vapre51 (or VP1), PS Protege, PS USBpass, The Chuck, M201, 510 with regular battery, and CaSH Cola 30ml bottle.

They do come with unprotected batts. I understand there can be problems using unprotected but I've never heard of one blowing up or catching fire in all the e-cigars that have been using them since, well, e-cigars!

You gotta do something silly to have a problem with an unprotected batt and you'd probably know it before it was REAL problem.

Even with the standard batt, it probably takes a little practice to get the cap squared up before screwing it on. Luckily it's not something you'll have to do 10 times a day :)

I read somewhere, I think it is in the mod forum of a batterry exploding in someones mod. I'm not even going to think of chancing it.

No. The protected batty is a VERY tight fit. Period. VERY tight, and if you get some off size of one, it isn't going to fit at all.

I posted this in another thread, but if you read the product reviews of the protected blue trustfires on DX..

dealextreme sells multiple Trust Fire 14500 batteries that have the PCB. However, they cost different amounts. I could never figure out the differences between the various models.
So, I bought two different models: sku 19626 ($4.75) and sku 03435 ($5.64). They look perfectly identical to my eye. The text on the battery is letter for letter the same. BUT, the cheaper one (19626) is wider by a very small amount (maybe 1/4 mm). This is just enough that it is a tight fit for my Akoray LED flashlight and is a little bit of a pain to remove.
I'm much more happy with sku 03435.

buy the ones with the fancy label

In your bushes, watching you undress
Nice shots.

I would suggest putting some NOALOX on the threads of the battery cap, should make it tons easier to screw/unscrew.

Put the NOALOX on a q-tip, wipe it into the male threads, wipe off excess. Screw and unscrew the cap on 5-10 times to work it into the threads, wipe of excess. It'll be a night and day difference I assure you ;)
