A .... hole...
Hi all,

Have to say I'm very very new to mixing and have been flooding my little brain with tons kg info from here. Been an awesome place to learn and now I hope to get enlightened further. Pardon me for the questions I'm gonna post...

1. Distilled water? Yes? No? I heard that it is not advisable to cut with distilled water as it will cause condensation in clearo or tank. I'm more concerned if inhaling water vapour into my lung. Best to avoid cutting with distilled? Or am I being too paranoid?

2. Alcohol content flavouring. I have came across posts on having zero alcohol juice. I have brought a rum flavor but only to realize it contains alcohol. Safe to mix and vape? Like above, pardon me if I'm being paranoid.

3. Do you steep for a period of time before test vape your mix or try a little right after mix?

4. Probably due to the vg I'm using, I do not taste the mix but do smell it. I understand if adding sweetener, it will basically inject a creamy taste. So how do I actually get to "taste" ...say... lemon without adding sweetener and get a weird creamy taste? I'm using as much as 40%vg as I hope to move to higher vg but limited by the flavourings available to me which are mostly pg based.

That's about all I have in mind.
Hope to get some advice soon.

TIA!

1. Distilled water isn't used to cut down your mixture, some people use it to thin their VG so it's easier to work with. This leads us to #2,

2. Some people use PGA (pure grain alcohol) to thin their VG with instead of water so a bit of alcohol in your flavoring isn't likely to be an issue.

3. I taste my juice when it's first mixed. I shake it up really good then try it. If it's good, I'll vape it. If it's not, I'll steep it.

4. I haven't noticed a creamy taste when adding sweetener, it kind of smoothes out some of those not very sweet mixtures. Perhaps it's just the sweetener I'm using or the percentage I'm adding though. Besides, lemon cream sounds pretty good to me. If you're worried about it just mix a small batch, say 2 ml or so, without sweetener and taste it. Then add some sweetener to it and see how it changes.

1. Never did that when I did pure VG. Just burned out stuff instead.

2. I believe people who crave throat hit do that alcohol thing, adding vodka, but I think alcohol based flavors are an avoidance issue. There's a reason they had to use alcohol to suspend the flavor.

3. I'll taste it if I feel like it asap, if not good, it goes in the ziplock and I'll get around to it. Pulled my watermelon and mt dew out a little early, but the rest is steeping. Most of my steeping happens because I just didn't get around to vaping it...or it's horrifically unvapable, in which case it might get to finish steeping in the sewer system.

4. Never heard that. Ethyl molitol gives a cotton candy edge. Sucralose is just like when you use it in other stuff, it's just sweet. Buy some sweet cream flavor or whatever is the milky thing these days. I"m not big on the milky and it seems like it'd be lame to me (thought I haven't tried it, but I'm not going to get all Green-Eggs-&-Ham resistant about it or anything. But that little jerk in the Green Eggs & Ham should have gotten his ... kicked about four pages in, imo.)

1) I believe that a Small amount of Water helps the Flavoring to setup in a DIY. Perhaps 2~5% water to the entire mix.

3) Absolutely. I think a New DIY Mix needs at Least 3 days. Some say that it will taste better after a week, a month, a year. I dunno about long term. To me, there isn't much change in flavor after 1 week unless you use some Plastic container which can Leach Chemicals into an e-Liquid. I haven't seen much change after a week using Glass Bottles.

( BTW - I'm sure there are going to be Hundreds of Post saying "Your Wrong. My ______ Tastes Much Better after it sat for _______ Weeks. The No Need for Longer Steep than 1 Week is just My Opinion so let's keep the PM's to a Minimum. Thanks. )

Thanks cskent!

Just worried about the content i will be vaping in after my mix.
Plan is to go zero nic and 100% VG if possible due to my eczema.

Will look into steeping those i didn't like how it taste once i'm done mixing and hope it will mature and turn out well.

As for sweetener, still scouting around for a suitable sweetener as the range in my country is very limited.

Good tips Wishdog!

Hope to locate some VG-based flavouring soon so it will drive me nearer to my goal: 100%VG vaping!

I try to avoid alcohol if possible. Drinking alcohol and inhaling it is quite a different thing, at least to me. lol

And on the milky cream flavour as sweetener, i cannot imagine passing a bottle of my mix to a friend and say: this is lemonade" when it appears to be too cloudy and milky to pass off as lemonade any time of the day.

What brand of flavouring are you using?

Some local brand of flavourings. Sadly, my little isle got no lovin from TPA, LorAnn nor Capella. :X
Probably i have not tried hard enough to find any of those in my country.
Guess i might resort in importing those flavourings myself. Meantime, trying out with what i have in hand.

Thanks zoiDman,

But won't the water mix be "harmful" when you vape the mix eventually?

lol, i guess i will be expecting those comments after my post but will keep an open mind to all advice and see which is helpful to my situation. I do hear that tobacco based juice doesn't taste better after some steeping: 1-2 weeks though i have not yet tried any tobacco based juices and no plan to try one yet. More into subtle floral taste, fruity as well.

If you are trying to use supermarket flavourings be careful of the contents, It will also take a lot more to get any flavour into your juices. The normal flavourings used in juice making are very concentrated.

Thanks for highlighting that point.
I'm currently using those flavoring for baking. Guess it should be good for vaping?

1. Yes. My personal ratio is at about 2-5% to thin out VG (works well with my clearos this way)
2. Alcohol.. Once again personal preference however alcohol does break down the PG VG further and may not be advisable in large quantities. I tend to stay away from alcohol bases or dilution keeping my DIY as natural as possible.
3. Steeping. Some flavors require it. Especially alcohol based as the alcohol changes the properties of the base juices PG/VG changing the flavor over time. My experience is tart or dark flavors need more steeping (tobacco's, coffees, alcohols)
4. Sweetener. I have never had a bad outcome using ethyl malto. Works good to bring out sweet flavors or round out mixed flavors.
