I have been vaping for a couple months now, although I agree I wasted money on the stock 510 batteries I bought, the mega batteries work pretty well and still look stylish, and last a pretty long while before they have to be changed. I am considering a passthrough so that I don't have to wear out my batteries if I am just sitting around at my computer, but double barrell silver bullet and some of the other mods just have me confused. I just don't see how a 510 couldn't be enough for people I guess.. I smoked a pack and a half of marlboro reds a day before I started vaping. And I smoked for 12 years. A stock 510 with a mega battery is plenty with 24mg liquid is plenty for me. Perhaps you may not be using strong enough or the right kind of liquid?

A PT is something i'm considering, but some kind of mega contraption that looks like I am trying to insert a marital aid into my mouth I am a little skeptical of. Why are one of these better than switching out a mega battery about once every 3 hours?

my own perspective:

the stock 510 is what got me to quit smoking, first day. as surprised as i was at that, i was extremely happy. played around with alot of different juices, flavors, strengths. then i saw the nicostick. got me interested in building my own, which i did, many in fact. going from the stock 510 battery to a true 3.7 (900+ mah) made an incredible difference in the experience - heightened so to speak. and then i went 5 volts, yet another level of enjoyment. i tried 6, didn't care for it. just earlier today i found one of my original stock 510 batts, tried it, and it was not satisfying at all.

analogy - my first car was a 15 year old opel kadet wagon (which was great for surfing runs). i loved it, until i got a newer, better car and would never think of going back to that opel. fast forward to today, and i spend 90% of my commute/transportation on a motorcycle.

its all about experience and enjoyment, and striving to find the ultimate in both.

that said, there is nothing wrong with the stock batteries, as they certainly worked for me and many others.

yes, big time flavor difference in just going from stock to 3.7. exponentially better going to 5v. same for throat hit. of course, not for all juices, its dependent on a number of factors. and with the higher volts you go through juice a little quicker as well. another large plus with the batt mods is power duration. i run some 18650 3000mah which last me all day and then some.

but, if you're quite content with the stock batts and/or a pt, there really is no need to go down the mod road.

I made a similar thread about this but still have questions. What hardware do I need to vape at 5V? Where can I buy it (shipped to Australia)?
at the minimum: a power supply, i use two 14500 3.7v batteries with a 5v regulator; a switch (with an inline resistor unless your switch can handle the amps); battery connector (where you connect your atomizer). you can also add a main on/off switch, leds, whatever else you fancy.

many members get their parts from madvapes.com, but i can't speak to him shipping to oz. perhaps a local electronic store for most of it. the connector can be had from a dismantled stock battery.

If you're getting by on standard batteries, I would stick with them. When you start to worry about having enough charged batteries to last you when you leave the house... Then you might need a Nicostick. Until then, don't worry about it. I still prefer my auto batts. Vapor is fine, flavor is fine, they just don't last long enough for me. So I use a Mod when I'm driving or don't want to waste my standard batts.

I vaped at 18-24mg when I was vaping the regular and mega batts on the 510. I bought the inexpensive box mod - Bartleby - I also had a Janty Stick and liked the way the box fit in the palm. The Bart has a 14500 900mAh batt which lasts me 8-10 hours. But the other main thing is that it holds peak voltage of 3.7-4.2V for hours. Scottbee's multimeter tests show that the oem batt and the mega don't even get up to the 3.7 range and are around 3.0-3.2v. That makes a difference in vapor and flavor of some of the stronger flavors when vaped at true 3.7v. Some flavors - lighter ones - don't do as well with the warmer wattage.

Anyway, I went from 18-24mg down to 11-12mg. And started to put the devices down occasionally ;-) just like you would a cig unless you chained smoked (I was close to that at 3 packs/day). But if megas are doing it for you then you should be good.

The 'Tornado/eGo' is like a transition to a Bartleby or other 14500 mods or 5 or 6v mod. (I have a 5V and prefer the 3.7V mainly because of flavor but also that you have to watch so you don't burn out attys). The Tornado keeps pretty good voltage for a few hours and then is more like a mega to the end - I get 6-7 hours out of one. Still prefer the Bart around home and will usually take both out, but will vape the Tornado when out and about.

I vape my eGo at 3.7 volts on a daily basis, and take it with me when I'm out and about...but the Silver Bullet at 6 volts is my baby at the house. The vapor is so much warmer, and the throat hit is much more pronounced. Not only that, but I actually get more flavor out of some of my juices at 6 volts.

I would definitely recommend trying out a high voltage mod. Two off the top of my head that might be good for you are the BB from altsmoke and the Protege from puresmoker. They are both 3.7 volt devices, but you can purchase passthroughs to make them 5 volts. Or you can buy a Silver Bullet, which takes either an 18650 battery for 3.7 volt vaping, or two RCR123A batteries for 6 volt vaping.

Some advantages to a 5 or 6 volt mod:

* batteries that last 6-8 hours on one charge
* consistent, great throat hit for hours
* batteries that cost $2.25 each instead of $10 -$13 each
* batteries that can be recharged 2000 times instead of just 200-250 times
* no longer being confused with smokers. Many of us do not want non-smokers to think we still smoke. I love the fact that a mod DOES NOT look like an analog.

Personally, i love vaping at 3.7v. the 5 or 6v is a little harsh for me, flavor just isnt there and i dont like the dangers of the batteries at 6v.

The silverbullet is a great item for 3.7 vaping. So is the bartleby, the chuck, prodogy and many more.

Its ultimately what you prefer as far as design.

I love the bigger mod's. I change the battery once a day, fill up cartomizers twice a day...and I'm good to go.

No matter your choice...good luck and im sure you will love it.

So what 5 or 6 volt mods are available, and where can I get them?

You'll have to narrow it down a bit man...there are tons of high voltage mods available.

Just off the top of my head: The Chuck, Silver Bullet, BB (passthrough is 5 volts), Protege (passthrough is 5 volts), and Prodigy. Just do a google search for any one those and attach e-cig to it, and you're bound to find all the info. you need. There are also tons that I didn't mention, but these are the usual suspects.

I use a Puresmoker V2 at 5 volts and a Puresmoker PassThru at 5 volts most of the day. I'll either run 510 attys and drip or use a cart - or run cartomizers. 5 volts is a real sweet spot for vaping IMHO. I tried 6V and it was too harsh. The PS units are really well built and the V2 at least doesn't look so much like a marital aid.

But I also carry in my pocket at all times my 510/cart with Blue Foam mod/mega batt. This is my go to if I'm not at my desk (PS Pass Thru) or in my car (PS V2) or at home in front of the TV (PS V2). Carrying the 3.7v 510/Mega is great for dipping in the bathroom for a quick vape etc. The 3.7v is not really dissatisfying, it's just not at the same vapor level as the 5v units. The Mega batts do a great job if you're not a chain vaper and you use it as a great, small form factor pocket device. There's no way I'm gonna carry around the V2 in my pocket all day! It's probably the smallest of the HV mods but it's still a bit big for an on-you-all-the-time unit.

Hope I didn't confuse you even more! Like I said, it's just my .02
