Something different about SmokTech cartos?

So, I noticed that a couple months ago, in the last batch of my SC tank replacements that SmokTech started laser printing a more visible resistance. However, I didn't get to this batch of cartos until the last week....and something seemed off.

id fill the cartos and try them before putti g them I. The tank, like usual. However, Ive noticed that it seems like I'm getting dry/burnt hits with a full carto upon initial use. I tried this a few times and found that it seems most if not all of them act this way. I even tossed a couple, thinking that they were simply bad cartos. BTW, they are all either 2 or 3 ohm SC.

But then, I decided that I needed to give them more of a chance and vape them for a bit. And it seems like they are fine after about 15-30 min of vaping. It also seems to take that long or a little longer to begin getting a decent amount of vapor and flavor from them.

What I'm wondering is this; Did SmokTech start putting primer in their cartos (again?) recently? I've been using them for about 5 mo ths now, ant this batch, with the bigger writing on the side, seem to be the first ones I'm having this issue with.

Mine are from SmokTek.com as well.

Good to know I'm not alone here. I've tried blowing them out before filling and a little after filling but before inserting in the tank and there doesn't appear to be a difference. Most of them still need a break in of 20 or so decent length vapes.

I suspect that they are either using a different brand/type of resistance wire or that the batch of wire they have has some type of coating that needs to be cooked off.

So I think the lessons would be this:

-To Users: don't just toss carto after carto because you get dry/burnt hits on a new carto. Work it for a bit and it should wind up vaping ok..

-To vendors: if you are getting complaints from customers on these cartos, make sure you make a stink with the manufacturer. If a bunch of vendors complain, maybe (maybe) SmokTech will address the issue.

I have been pretty inactive from ECF for awhile but I decided to pop in and check things out for this very reason. I have been using 1.7ohm smoktech SCTs for quite some time, I usually order in batches of 25 so they last me for a few months. I definitely noticed something different with this last batch, however different than what is described earlier in this thread. I have not been able to get as much use as I typically have in the past, it seems on this latest batch I am getting about a week or so before I start getting flooding, burning, poor draw. On previous batches I can typically go a few weeks. I also noticed on the older batches, if it got "clogged" I could easily put a safety pin through the middle and clear it out a bit. On these newer ones, its pretty difficult, its almost like something is blocking it when it gets to the point of a hard draw. I have yet to rip one apart yet.

In terms of batteries, I have kept the same gear (eGo-C's and eGo twist @ ~3.6v). The only thing that would have changed with my last batch would have been the tank. Previously I used Smoktech DCTs and I decided to switch up to a UDCT. Not sure if that could have an impact here.

No, the type of tank would have nothing to do with your issue

As far as the clogging goes, I learned to maintenance my cartos early on to avoid airflow constriction and keep the coil from building u a ton of crap. I use a short piece of welding rod (either copper or steel) that is about 0.04 in. in diameter and gently run it through the air tube every or every other tank full. This has generally helped me avoid the clogging/tightening draw issue, even on this latest batch. So, I have not noticed a difference with that on this latest batch.

With that said, I think your issue and mine likely have the same cause; I believe that Smok is using a different type of resistance wire or building the coil differently on these cartos now.

Now that you mention it I think I'll tear 2 of these apart tomorrow. 1 old one, and 1 from the latest batch.
