So my dad asked me today how I quit smoking, I told him using an e-cig (didn't say vaping cause he wouldn't know). He then asked if i could get one for him, so I said "Of, course!". But, I'm torn over what to get him. He's not the most tech savvy person in the world. I started with regular ego's then upgraded to the MVP 2 and wow, what a difference. I want to provide him the best possible vape with the least amount of human interaction...lol. Any ideas? Should i just get him an MVP 2 also, and tell him to set it to 8 watts and forget it?

I think that might actually be a good start since he'll have you for support. But you might want to ask him a few more questions too. Will he use it at work? Would he rather have something small and easy to conceal like a little ego twist etc? Welcome and congrats! It's always a great feeling to help family members get their health back!

My mother said the same thing. I went and got her a Vivi Nova kit, with 2, 3ml tanks, 2 ego twist batteries, and 3, 30ml bottles of juice. I sat down and showed her EVERYTHING. How to take them apart, how to clean them, fill them, and what to do if it leaked. Sometimes, all you really need to do is explain things really well, and show someone hands on how to do something. She still asks questions, but she is LOVING Vaping too :) I am super excited that she and I (and even my stubborn step-father) can all do this together. If you don't feel comfortable showing your parents, your local vape shop should be able to help you.

Mom wanted something compact, that KIND of resembled a cigarette, but that she could put in her purse, or carry with her somewhere and not feel like she was lugging around an iron lung. My step father really didn't care as long as he was getting nicotine :/

Don't sell your folks short, old dogs can learn new tricks!! :) I know I did after 40+ years of smoking. When I transitioned the "upgrade" that helped the most was switching to a 650mah fixed voltage ego, it was also the high tech of the time... They are a good option for a noob, simple yet work well, gives you something to practice on to learn how to properly inhale.

Half or more of vaping is learning how to use your equipment properly, a MVP 2 with VV/VW adds complications. If you're having any issue the first try is "adjust the voltage" "fiddle with the controls". KISS, if all there is push a button and inhale, it makes it simpler, easier. They will be able to adjust their draw, how long to hold the button down, and how that affects the vapor and flavor.

p.s. if you want to get the perfect coil wrapped, ask someone who's been tying flies for 30 or 40 years...

That's the problem, I can't show him how to do any of it. I'm on deployment right now and not due back anytime soon. I guess i could direct him to a vape shop where he lives, but I'm not sure he will go. The only explaining i could do is via email.

Congrats on you and your Dad. As Stosh has mentioned don't write off us old geezers- 44 yrs smoking. I love my large APV cuz it gives me what I need.- long battery life and many options when needed.
You could always send him this review to give him an idea of the size, etc.

    +1

I was 69 years old when I made the switch, and now wrap my own coils (it really is just like tying flies), and DiY my own e-liquid.
BUT, I started out with a simple old eGo battery like Stosh did.

In todays world I would suggest something like this for a starter.

I gave my mom an eGo-C and a battery and let her go to town. She's as happy as can be. She watches me with my mech mods and such and is mesmerized by more vapor but completely disinterested when I say anything about Kicks and Variable Voltage. Her next step up might be a twist, but she's a few weeks off from that.

I would have recommended just getting an EVOD starter kit. Simple easy to use and comes in a variety of colors. Vape Dojo has them, but only in Black or Stainless Steel:

but they also have Red, Green, Pink, Yellow, and Purple at other vendors.

Well I started my dad off with two eGo Twist batteries that he is completely satisfied with. He likes his simple Vivi Novas too.
If your father is anything like mine, he won't really care much about vapor production.
Personally, I'd start him off with a set up like that and some really good ELiquid. He should be vaping in no time! :)
P.S. I am getting my dad a MVP 2 for his birthday. Shhhhh.
