this is what my Dr said to me..."Unfortunately, nicotine is the main culprit and health risk, so if it contains nicotine, then the risk should be the same. If it doesn't have nicotine, what's the point? Better to check on a pencil or celery sticks! (As a former heavy smoker, I can relate though.)"

Don't mean to sound flip but, seriously, he/she needs to go back to school or at least to youtube and watch all the videos by internists, cariologists and other specialties one of whom is the Chief of Staff, UCLA Santa Monica Hospital... name is Dr. David Baron... its a two part video. Might want to send your doc the links to it.

As I understand it nicotine is a stimulant. Same as caffeine and the like. I think it is preposterous that the assumption that it (nicotine) is the main health risk when it come to Virginia killing sticks. The border for the uninformed doesn't stop at the doctor office unfortunately. I've had the same talk with my GP. But since I don't have the degrees on my wall my knowledge means d**k. So I just pay my co-pay and go about my day.

Smoking is defined almost everywhere as the act of inhaling particles that have been combusted.

You arent smoking my friend. Its hard when you have family members and relatives that remain closed minded but give her some time.If she still doesnt see the obvious health benefits and changes in you after a few months refer her here or better yet to the CASAA website to do some reading.

She'll come around.

I agree that my Dr's comment was ignorant so I just dropped the subject with him and won't discuss this with him again. Although I'm aware that vaping is sure to come with it's own health risks, it is NOT the same as smoking and the health risks HAVE to be a lot lower than smoking cigarettes with all the carcinogens, chemicals and tar added. Phffft. Whatever...some remain uninformed and I didn't feel like taking the time to educate him when he could just as easily look up the same info I have. I know I haven't had an asthma attack or a morning/bedtime coughing spell since I picked up my first e-cig more than a year ago! :D

Maybe he'd prefer you suck on a nicotine free exhaust pipe??? Even my GP's smoking cessation expert gave vaping a thumbs up. When I met with her I expected someone to spout the everyday BS we've all heard from the "Health" authorities. I walked out of that office impressed with her knowledge and flexibility in realizing how addictive smoking is. She truly knew her stuff and was extremely supportive.

Sorry about the tone of the first line but here we have a viable solution to our addiction, an addiction that usually kills, and he's dissing it with false facts?

I just visited my doctor today - and told her I quit smoking - and she asked for details - patch? Gum? I told her 'e-cigs' and she noted that down and said she'd mark me as an ex-smoker after 6 months. I see she also noted that I quit smoking and am using 'e-cigs' on my post visit report her office hands me when I leave.
She had zero concern about nicotine - she told me the tar was much more a health risk. She also told me to reduce the nic content ONLY when I felt I could go lower - not to rush it. She had no problem if it took a year or longer - as long as I stay away from tobacco.
Thankfully I found that I have an enlightened doctor! (And now she can stop bugging me to quit smoking every visit - lol)

The docs I know usually say: "patient X quit smoking successfully using e-cigarette." Not everything is black and white-- vaping is one set of risks (mostly unknown) and smoking is another (known and really, really bad).

Nicotine isn't harmless-- neither is caffeine or sudafed or aspirin. But it's not the Big Bad in the cigarette. Anything is better than smoking, and that's the message doctors ought to be giving.

Does your wife display this kind of negativity approximately every 28days? It's normal.

Repeat these words liberally as neccessary, "Yes, dear."

i must behave far worse than you (i believe it) - my mantra is "yes dear, you're always right dear - i only live to serve you dear".

Ofc - then i go back to doing precisely what it was i was doing before - and we're all happy! hehe!

yes absolutely. it's all a scam. they all contain antifreeze. my local emergency room right now has lines twelve deep full of old white chain smokers suffering from glycol poisoning . when when the moon is full, and the north star is the brightest star in the sky. you can hear a symphony of people mumbling- "got a cigarette?", "got a light?". excuse me. gotta go. fox and friends is coming on.

Smoking is NOT Vaping. They are different things totally and ANY former smoker can attest to how much better you feel and breathe once you quit smoking. Most doctors consider vaping as not smoking.
Insurance companies and politicians consider it as smoking because it gives them power over you, to punish you and force restrictions and penalties upon you (they make money when they punish and deny you coverage. They are NOT in the insurance business for altruistic reasons at all, it's all about making money and screwing John Q Public out of every penny they can.) It's going to take a major lawsuit to change this mentality. It's only a matter of time before the right person is pushed to far.... and then the narrow minded political money grubbers will have to change their tune.
It can't happen to soon for me.

do you vape with nicotine?, if so what did your doctor/insurance have to say about that? do they still consider you a non smoker with nicotine in your system?

yes and yes. No combustion you see. All that ever burns is my wicks :(

For just one second let us consider a burning cigarette, which CASAA and most health professionals reckon has 4000 chemicals in it - tar - CO - and so on. And then what you vape - PG, VG, nicotine maybe, and maybe some flavor.

My insurance and my doctor both consider me a non-smoker; not that i care more what they think than i ever did - but because - just on the balance of probabilities (insurance is ALL about that no?) that 4 v 4000 sounds like decent odds!

Now let's suppose plan C - i just stop and do nothing except maybe strangle my dog if it barks etc and i whine nonstop about everyone that smokes or does anything that looks like it near me for the rest of my life...which man would you prefer to be?

Sign me up.
There is a very good chance that is actually will take a lawsuit.

And the parties that can be named as defendants is virtually endless.
And they will all be very wealthy defendants.

If a person wins such a lawsuit, it should pay more than any lottery on earth.
