In case you're newer to the forum... here's a link to a recent UC Berkeley/Boston U study on the role of e-cigs in tobac reduction:

http://www.palgrave-journals.com/jphp/journal/v32/n1/full/jphp201041a.html

I pass it along to anyone interested, including my docs, since the article's content, objectivity, and tone are perfect for newcomers. Always good to spread the word, of course.

From the abstract:

"We conclude that electronic cigarettes show tremendous promise in the fight against tobacco-related morbidity and mortality. By dramatically expanding the potential for harm reduction strategies to achieve substantial health gains, they may fundamentally alter the tobacco harm reduction debate."

I like the quote:

"Thus far, none of the more than 10000 chemicals present in tobacco smoke,4 including over 40 known carcinogens, has been shown to be present in the cartridges or vapor of electronic cigarettes in anything greater than trace quantities. No one has reported adverse effects, although this product has been on the market for more than 3 years. "

Anything to quell the skeptics

This is what I tell anyone who has questions now. I quote this article :)

Good stuff Jeffree! Never hurts to have a few more arrows in the quiver when it comes to the war of words. However that last sentence could be interpreted as untrue when it comes to those with severe PG reactions. Of course I guess that boils down to what your definition of "adverse" is. If the definition of adverse is any proven physical causal effect of any kind then it's blatantly untrue. If adverse means only something fatal or terminal then I guess it could be deemed true.

Allergy to PG in E-cigs - YouTube

Not that this video is needed, we all know people who have had physical reactions to PG.

Add Edit: When people ask me about the safety of E-cigs I tell them that I believe it is the lessor of 2 evils and leave it at that. The truth is there are no long term studies or what people in the medical industry call "proof". This is why you will never find a single e-juice producer make any health safety claims and place themselves in a liable situation.

For those that feel I am aiding the other side so-to-speak....I'm not the only one.

The fact there is an entire sub-forum dedicated to health effects and issues here on the ECF is a testament within itself.

Good point, Snow. As you may know, I discovered the same PG-sensitivity early on, which led to VG-only juices by my fourth month of vaping. My reaction to PG was similar to those in the video (outbreaks of zits on face, shoulders, and scalp) although they took a month to develop. Interestingly, they came back almost immediately when I tried PG juices again six months later, so I've stayed away from PG ever since. Throughout that time I visited the ECF health sub-forum several times to compare my situation and found that I'm not alone.

I know that the V4L crew has mentioned some new VG juices in the works, and I'm hoping they come to pass. Meanwhile, the VG market and supplies have expanded greatly, in general, during the past couple of years. For folks like me, that trend is great news.

Bham, if you're ever in a meeting discussing new VG entries, I'd encourage you to push hard on one key point, above all: the new VG juices should have the same consistency as your PG juices. No more of those thick juices that are hard to syringe and can clog cartos.

Other suppliers are leading the way in this regard, and it's not difficult to thin the juices while adding extra flavor to compensate during manufacturing. There's no reason that consumers should have to struggle with such stuff.

Other factors, like being made in the USA, would be great, but juice consistency is at the top of the list for many VG vapers these days. I'd like to see V4L nail that feature, above all, and then make it a key focus of its advertising. The word would spread quickly.
