Last year after Hurricane Sandy, the wife and I went a week without power. Ever since that experience, we've slowly but surely have been putting together a shelf unit in the basement for storm preparedness (batteries, flashlights, lanterns, and things like say, a french press, which we would have killed for during that week.)

Well we're now approaching a month of being analog free, and someone on the boards pointed out the problem that comes with power outages and vaping. This just arrived from Amazon, it's the Limeade L180x, a whopping 18,000 mAh battery backup unit. It's small, light and portable, it has a little built in LED flashlight, and it can charge two devices at once. Amazon has it on sale for $99 which is way more affordable than comparable units. It won't get you through a week of powerless vaping, but I think it'll be far more convenient to charge this thing off of the generator (or the car) and then your devices off of this.

Lifehacker did a review of this unit, you can check it out here. I also think it's pretty cool that Limeade is a Kickstarter success story!

The Limeade Packs Enough Juice for All Your Gadgets, Fits In a Pocket

Our eventual goal is to get a whole house natural gas generator installed, but that hasn't happened yet... so this will help bridge the gap :)

Living down here in da 'cane zone, I have two generators with a rotated gas supply. That's not counting da three deep cycle boat batts, plus da truck batt. Must have at least a half dozen charging adapter cables (plus several sets of clamp ons).

Da last thing I need to worry 'bout during a crisis is dead vaping batts...

BTW, still lookin' fer a rea$onable solar charging system for my small batts and communications/entertainment gear.

After Irene 2 years ago, we went without power for 7 days, and then a couple months later an early winter storm hit (Alfred) and we lost power for another 8 days (we lived in CT at the time). It's definitely something I've thought about since I now rely on batteries instead of a lighter.

Good on you for being prepared!

15 ml of a simple tobacco like desert sands and a pass threw will be added to my bug out bag before the end of the weekend. I'll toss in a clearo i don't care for much so I won't miss it in there. Like a Vivi. French press already there. Hurricane Isabel taught me that one and also the joys of a hospital cafe. Two weeks no power but lots of great friends bottled water board games and a fireplace. It was almost a vacation.

You are still new to the emergency electric stash. Back in the day, we did not have cell phones, iPads and PVs. We had snail mail, books and tobacco.

Yes.. it was called the 80's... I wore acid washed jeans and listened to Poison and Motley Crue... I remember it well.

I have a power inverter in my truck for these types of scenarios, it'll even run a coffee maker

Me too... during Sandy we had to run my wife's hair dryer out to the car so she could get ready for work.. heh. My idea is to charge this off the car, then have this be able to recharge multiple batteries and phones and what not without having to run the car so often.

if we get another "flooding event" like TS Debbi and my house becomes an island I dont want to be wading to the nearest gas station for smokes AGAIN...we had fish nibbling my knees and saw Gators swimming down the street. Water got just to the bottom of the thresholds but thank the universe did not come in the house. Cars were toast with water to the dash for 6 days. Food we had, camp stove we had, bottled water we had....no electric, no tv, no internet, no Flushing due to septic tank being flooded...that was the worst

I like the way my wife just put it... during Sandy... we did anything we could to keep ourselves busy... we cleaned, we cleaned up the yard and pulled weeds and stuff.. we did puzzles.... but we're just over three weeks analog free... if this happened next week and we didn't have batteries, after knowing what Sandy was like? We'd be walking to the gas station to buy analogs... probably saying "Just until the power comes on....."
