1 little thing that's been overlooked here the actual habit of smoking by that I mean I am only 40 and that habit of picking up a smoke lighting it flicking the ash etc etc was one of the hardest parts about quitting...... The habitual side for a gent of 73 will be a large portion of his quitting it will take time to pick up a whole new habit and forget one so ingrained into his everyday life......

Must add tho it's a fantastic thing you're doing for him congrats to you

Update: Father in law just finished a 10ml bottle of 18mg juice in just about exactly two weeks. Still smoking analogs:( but has cut back a bunch!:) Heard we were running errands today so asked us to pick him up another bottle of 18mg and a bottle of 12mg. (His idea!) Also ordered from an online vender two flavors that are supposed to simulate the brands he smokes. Tall Paul and US Red which may give away which Vender to the informed:p

Hoping he will lose his taste for the real ones and have a 'Something weird just happened' moment like that guy in the other thread. Also researching WTA as a last resort if he continues to crave analogs.

This is awesome to read!
I smoked heavily for 33 years and was having a bit of a hard time giving up my little bit of "real" cigs a day even though I actually hated them. I just got some 24ml unflavored WTA and adding a little bit to my regular juice seems to have done the trick. I am not chain vaping, in fact I am vaping far less and I am much more relaxed. I am not tempted to pick up a smoke. If he has trouble after another month or two it might just do the trick for him, but I would give him time before you pull it out. :)

I think he will just take time for him to acquire the new habit and lose the old one. It takes many people some time to be able to switch entirely.

Regarding WTA research, here is a paper you should consider: IJERPH | Free Full-Text | Comparison of the Cytotoxic Potential of Cigarette Smoke and Electronic Cigarette Vapour Extract on Cultured Myocardial Cells | HTML
tl;dr -- EC vapour is less toxic to heart cells than cigarette smoke. For most of them no toxic effect was detected, but WTAs are only 8 times less toxic. With the proviso of course that this is a lab experiment designed as an early research baseline -- if you are blowing EC vapour directly onto your heart, you're doing it wrong.

:w00t: He is cutting back! Great news indeed. Yes it is!

At least he is asking for more :) 10ml in two weeks is really not that much. Maybe encourage him to vape more. It could be that he is treating it like smoking. Only using when he craves? I equate vaping to the patch. Constant low dosage keeps the cigarette craving at bay. Personally, I go through 5ml per day.

One thing that may help is back when he was working he did not smoke at work. Brick mason and would smoke on the drive to work then never touch another until the drive home.

I co-sign having him try some new flavors. E-juice doesn't replicate the taste of a cigarette very well. I know my BF preferred fruity flavors much more so than the tobacco ones (pack a day Newport smoker)

These are the ten flavors I bought for him online,
Regular USA Mix Tobacco Flavor
VG Based Regular (Like Marl)
Black Tobacco Flavor
Coffee Flavor
Cohita Tobacco
Cuban Cigar (Cubano) Flavor
Fine 555 Tobacco Flavor (Three Five)
Flue Cured Tobacco Flavor
Havana Select Tobacco Flavor
Virginia Flavor

Pretty sure all but the coffee are tobacco flavors? As soon as I hear he has tried the 12mg juice will know what strength to order to mix with the 24mg. 0 + 24 will make 12, or 6 + 24 will make 18 if I understand the math. Actually hoping he will want 12 need 0 for mixing so I can try the coffee:unsure:

May also leave off one of the cigar flavors and substitute vanilla since my FIL never smoked cigars. Can give the orphan 24mg cigar to a coworker who vapes as his (ever decreasing) analog of choice are little cigars with the filter removed. Yuck!
