Could someone explain why a high drain battery works better on a mechanical mod and would it be possible to use a high drain battery in conjunction with the Kick?

My apologies for the noobish questions ~

No apology required. Asking questions is a good thing :)

Typically people get mechanical mods so they can use them at higher power with lower resistance coils. In this scenario high drain means the battery is at least capable of 10 amps continuous discharge with some as high as 30A.

These batteries also are IMR or hybrid Li-ion which are the safest ones you can get because they don't burn when they vent. If you draw too much current from a battery it will heat up. Get it too hot and they will vent.

High drain batteries should be used with a Kick.

No problem, Momotaro. :)

You'll get more battery time (higher mAh) with a protected ICR battery than a high drain battery of the same size. HOWEVER, you'll be much safer using a safe-chemistry, high-drain battery than a protected ICR. And isn't that more important than battery time? I say this having had a protected ICR battery explode in my first mechanical mod. Since that incident I use only high drain batteries.

The Kick requires the use of high drain batteries.

I run both the Sony VTC4 and the Efest purple. For maximum protection and usable power the 30 + 35 amp batteries can't be beat. The AW 1600 are ok, but the 10 amp 2000 mah are worthless.
Maybe to you and your applications, but the AW 18650 IMR 2000 mAh battery is the most popular and most used battery in vaping. Because of this it is also the most counterfeited battery in the world. I use about six of these in rotation and prefer this battery over all others.

Hey Baditude, thanks for shedding light on this.

I think I have kindda figured it out and am going with High Drain IMR batteries for my mech mod.

Looking at grabbing the AW 18650 IMR 2000mAh or the Sony VTC4 / VTC 3.

Maybe even a mix or all 3 just to figure out the differences.

Thanks~

P.S. Read your informative blog entries on batteries. A real useful guide for all newbies. Cleared most battery related questions I had and numerous trip down google's hole
