Sony VTC 4 Leaking Battery Acid?

the full charge of an 18650 is actually 4.2 volts. i dont recall why they are listed as 3.7. im not familiar with the mod, but is there anything on the negative side that would correlate with the holes you observed in the negative side of the battery? did you inspect the battery prior to using it? i ask because im wondering if maybe those holes were already present before you tightened the bottom cap

For most Li-ions that's from 4.2 to 2.7 volts, and the discharge curve enters the kind of a plateau between 3.7 and 3.6 volts, so that ends up as the main voltage rating. Some batteries that can be charged above 4.2 v usually state their maximum, such as 4.35 v

So if you don't know the story already its in my thread titled "Sony VTC 4 Leaking Battery Acid?". Anyways, I really don't feel like touching this battery because i don't want to risk having this thing go off in my hand. Any ideas on how to properly dispose and get rid of the battery?

If you have a Radio Shack, Lowes, or Home Depot near you, they will take batteries for recycling,

Believe they are listed as 3.7 because that is "storage" charge. They say only store a battery at around 3.7v

You dead-shorted your battery. Probably some combination of using an Ego-510 Adapter on a hybrid (direct battery contact) mech mod and pulling the battery off the charger at 3.7V.

It should be pointed out that this is almost definitely user error (no offense to OP), and it is not advisable to use an Ego adapter on ANY mech mod, let alone a hybrid! Additionally, when you're popping a battery in a mech mod KEEP AN ATOMIZER ATTACHED. This way, you can find out if your mod is auto-firing. This could've potentially prevented OP from shorting his battery.

I wouldn't use salt water or any other home remedy to dispose of a high-drain battery. As it was already suggested, please take advantage of a place that offers battery recycling. Personally, I go to Home Depot - I put my old battery in a zip lock bag or wrapped in plastic wrap and I drop it in the battery recycling box that they have at the entrance.

Also, it's advisable when you first take your battery off of a charger to let it sit for about 10 minutes to cool down before you throw it in a mod and fire it.

Im such a dingus! but hey now i know what not to do. appreciate the feedback

i was unaware of letting the battery cool down after charging. thanks for the advice

I would like you to get a regulated mod to run your ego threaded clearo. Look at the istick 30W or mvp 20W for a better device for that type of atty.

Save your SMPL for later. Its better for RBAs. You should also learn about battery safety, mech mods, Ohm's Law and hybrid mods during that time :)

Glad you weren't injured. That's the important thing.

I appreciate the concern. I plan on buying an RTA soon because I do feel comfortable using a mech mod. I will do further research on battery safety though. This incident is just due to me being a grade A dingus brain and not using my knowledge of this device at the time. Thanks for the advice

Realistically it could happen to anyone, I'd hope a vape shop would be smart enough to not advise a mech mod + a 510-ego adapter. The fact that the SMPL is a hybrid just adds to the spookydanger factor.

I agree with other posters, check out an iStick. There are also a lot of neat tube-style VW mods on the market these days.

It was that that type of mech and clearos are not a good combination, which created a hard short. It can happen on that mod with some RBAs, too. Its not a bad mod, it just requires certain knowledge, which unfortunately you had to learn the scary way.

Both regulated mods I suggested will also run RBAs just fine as well. So its not like you would "outgrow" them. 20W is plenty for a single coil RBA and 30W can run just about anything. Heck, I'm running a tri coil Gus Estia on 30W. When I had it on a mech, I had it built lower, but now that I'm running regulated, there's no need. So I built it higher to get more surface area on my coils since I have complete control over the power supplied :)

Surface area is key, yo!

I see these "cloud chasers" still building these 4-wrap .1 ohm coils and it makes me laugh. My 14-wrap .6 ohm coil on a box will destroy that super-sub-ohm garbage.
