Sony VTCs?

Are Sony VTC IMR batteries actually manufactured by Sony? I see none have the Sony logo on them, and some are listed on the pkg, as being produced by other company's. I seen a pkg of 2 labeled as a Smoktech product. I purchased 2 recently and I went to this forum and I seen the Sun Vapes post on the test for fake Sonys and my batteries are fakes. Can I purchase these from Sony directly?

They used to be made by Sony.
The lack of logos is because they were not manufactured as end user consumer products, they were manufactured for build into power packs by other manufacturers
.
Sony has said they no longer manufacture them in house or offer them for sale.
Sony as many other companies did farm some of the manufacturing out to other reputable manufacturers during their production.
Some of these manufacturers seem to be still producing them, those are the "authentic" VTC batteries that you find today.

Some unreputable manufacturers also counterfeit them and since they are not to the OEM standards, have less reliable performance, which can be dangerous for some of our applications.

This video goes pretty in depth on this subject. actually, Sony does not make VTC4 or VTC5 batts. "Some" company that at one time had a sub contract w Sony makes the batts and uses the Sony name, even though Sony is not in the picture. It's pretty confusing and seems like a sham. And its all news to me personally. I just ordered some to. I wish I would have seen this video before today...I was gonna leave the link to the video but I cant post links as im new. I have said for some time that it'd be rather nice if some battery maker - a Sony, Samsung or whatever actually rose to the challenge and provided vapers with reliable, authentic batteries.

Vaping is no longer the same as flashlight and radio-controlled car stuff. My wife is not interested in a 15C Lipo unless it fits in a 'my little pony' Reo.

I've never seen Sony's subcontractor's VTC4/5 battery manufacturing operation, nor would I know what I was looking at if I had. If they have been subcontracted out for quite some time, and were just fine with everyone who did home brew tests on them before this became an issue, and the same subcontractors still make them, I'm not seeing a problem. They've been counterfeited for some time now, so that's always been an issue, so to speak. Bottom line for me is to buy things that can go boom from reputable sources, same as before. Sony didn't discontinue supplying power cells, manufactured by subcontractors or not, unless they were losing money on them. They just changed distribution models.

Althoguh sonys are the safest batteries out there they are only 30 amp.ive been using efest 2500mah and theyr rated 35amp and ive never had a problem.but i normally dont build lower then .2 so i dnt see why they wouldnt be safe

The 35 amp quote is the pulse rating however. They are fine for .2 and above but those extreme sub-ohmers could get in trouble. My eFests seem to last a little longer than my Sonys but I've never done a legitimate test so I wouldn't know. They are rewrapped LG HE2 batteries according to a lot of people. They maintain a lower temperature better than my Sonys so that's another plus.

I've got SO many VTC 4's and 5's... In the vtc4 collection, I have 4 different labels/markings. 2 batteries actually say "Sony 31" under the SE codes, maybe those are the only 2 actual Sony batt's I own. Maybe those are not even Sony's lol.
I use all the different vtc4's and vtc5's down to 0.2 ohms just fine. Brands don't matter to me any longer, just performance. If it gets warm, you're pushing it. Play it safe!

That Efest battery is allegedly only a re-wrapped 20 amp LG18650HE battery. Efest disreputably uses the pulse discharge rate instead of the more reputable continuous discharge rate like most manufacturers do. This can be very misleading to buyers. Can you say false advertising?
