So I ordered a roll of the nic-chrome wire, took apart my dead atty. I wanted 1.5-1.7 ohm coil. So I unrolled some wire and cut just over 3/4" and damn, I dropped it and couldnt even see it! I am slowly workin on it but wow that wire is small. I just rolled a coil ( I wish I had a HUGE magnifying glass ) I tell ya it takes patients. I have to solder the leads next, my smallest lead free solder is a bigger than the wires. It just goes to show ya that the pics every one shows dont do it justice on how small it is!

drewk302.... I'm posting this suggestion, not because I build atties ($7.00ish... I buy em) but just because a thought occurred. Take it with a grain of salt.
There are 2 ways to reduce resistance with the wire that you have...
1) Use shorter wire (like you are doing)
2) Use parallel wires. Like double the length, 2 wires (isolated/not shorted to each other). 2 coils have 1/2 the resistance of 1.....
Check electronics tutorial forums on resistors in parallel.
Food for thought. 2 cents.

Its not the length of the wire, its the diameter, as you already know.
I'm guessing you are using 36 gauge nichrome and unless you have eagle eyes you will need at least a magnifying glass.
It also helps to have a contrasting background to work on. Sometimes the wire will disappear right in your hands if you turn it the wrong way. lol
Once you have wound it in a coil watchout for the springing action. ping.
What atty are you rebuilding?

Sub-note: for a wire of given (fixed) diameter, it is the length that matters, since he is not likely to change the diameter of the wire that he has (try and extrude it? lol). Yes, he can get different diameter wire and that will change the resistance too. But the point still applies. Sheesh!

Sorry Attie poops, The op isn,t having a problem with ohms, Its the size of the wire. it's real hard to see. see.lol
OK, but let him chime in as to whether the longer length wire will help him. He said he wanted real low ohms (1.5 - 1.7) so he only has about 3/4 " to work with (per his post). Of course he can also order different diameter wire.

Sorry, Attypops. this is really getting off track. The op doesn't need to change his wire for the ohms he wants. He was just saying how the wire is so small you cant see it.
