I'm probably in the wrong forum section but I figured I could get a quicker response here...

My supervisor came up today and told me that, per CA law, I'm not allowed to vape within 25ft of a building/entrance and since I work in a cluster of buildings I have to walk all the way to a specific spot to vape. Is this true ? I live in Southern California and I thought they just passed a law that said electronic cigarettes are not to be regulated as a tobacco products so that 25ft thing shouldn't apply to vaping right ? The funny part is the place she told me to go vape at has signs saying its a "smoke free environment"

Can anyone tell me if that's actually CA law ? And if not point me to the law that says I'm allowed to do it within 25ft of a building/entrance ?

I tried searching but I couldn't find anything recent or a clear cut answer.

Thanks,

Last I heard about it, was there was an attempt to ban it in California within 20ft of public buildings. I don't know if it ever went through or not.

This was on Casaa's site in 2013.
California: Attempt to Add E-Cigarettes to "Smoking" Ban -- SB 648
If enacted, this bill would:
Ban the use of vapor products wherever smoking is banned. Among those provisions most likely to impact users are those that would:
  • Ban e-cigarette use in virtually all workplaces in California, including in hospitals. Violations would be punishable by fines of $100, $200, and $500. (Section 12)
  • Ban e-cigarette use inside or within 20 feet of any public building or in a vehicle owned by the state. (Section 4)
  • Declares that the use of electronic cigarettes “may be a hazard to the health of the general public,” and would include e-cigarettes in all future smoking bans passed in California. (Section 11)
  • Ban e-cigarette use in railroads and air carriers. (Section 13)

I'm currently vacationing with grown siblings and families. My brother and I started vaping since the last one. This time if we vape in the living room when it's empty and someonne walks in they are clueless since there is no visible vapor or odor (we must be tootle puffers). The second hand vapor issue is a farce.

Thanks,

I am Not Aware of Anything restricting you from using an e-Cigarette within 25' of a Building or Building Entrance for California, Orange County, or the City of Irvine. What type of Building is this? A Governmental Building perhaps.

Not sure How Much you want to Challenge your Supervisor? But here is an Up to Date list of Regulations per State and by County.

http://www.no-smoke.org/pdf/ecigslaws.pdf

Didn't see anything for Orange County.

BTW - The Best Sources of Detailed Info on e-Cigarette Laws and Regulations is Always the Non-Smoking Sites.

What's Up with That?
