It's all personal prefrence, the REO was my first mechanical/rebuildable and I came from ego's so even the stock RM2 air hole was a huge difference. But just shaving that little bit off was huge, it probably will end up getting bigger but i'm not ready for it yet, im still adjusting to my new setting. Eventually I will have a selector like pdib... but that'll come after the fireing pin mod, and perfecting mundy's wire. It sounds like you know what your doing and your are more experianced w/ rba's than I. I just wanted to throw the suggestion of using a pocket knife to slowly bore out the hole, since the metal is so thin/soft.

5/64th may be too big, since you wouldn't be doing Super Sub-Ohm vaping, that comes out to 1.98mm. In one of Pdibs other threads he made a selectable collar that had 1.7, 1.6, 1.5, 1.45, 1.4, 1.3mm holes He may be a better resource than I.

my understanding is that a sub-ohm kit will be a firing pin and an uprated spring. It will handle higher Amps and the pin will not spark because it is beryllium copper, used in tools in places where explosive gases are present. (= no more Noalox). Maybe i will never again clean it!

It is not possible, responsible or desirable for a mod maker to provide kits that remove the only safety device a Reo has and so that bit is down to personal competence and daring!

Your gamble and mine is that we can do so. Safely.

In a lot of ways, the ability to bend a Reo to do things it was never intended to is great and proves a certain versatility, but there are better sub ohm devices for sure.

"will it work without a spring"? yep.

I've got 5 Grands; all five are fused with my fuse block and a mini 10A auto fuse. All my firing pins are either SS wrapped in brass shim or solid brass from a feeler gauge, and one that's BeCu. They are of a different shape (the pin tip). I never need to do anything to them (i.e. zero maintenance). They never spark. It's been about 3 months. I average .4Ω and use flat top batteries.

ya I got the same response from home depot.

I have 2 grands, and both are fused with a mini 10A. My daily grand still uses the first moulded clay fuse holder I made and it has just continued to work amazingly. I have been waiting on rob for the firing pin upgrade. I may still keep the fuse installed instead of the new spring, I have really gotten used to it and I like how solid of a contact it makes.

Is Rob's kit going to include a teflon button too?

No the new low ohm firing pin won't get hot enough to melt the standard button so no need for it.

Only had my Reo for a few days now and stumbled upon this thread. I keep quite a few spare fuses in my car so i went out and grabbed one of the mini 10 amp fuses and bent it into shape and replaced my spring to try it out. I have to say that there is a noticeable difference. Im planning on picking up some standard fuses for a better fit on my way home from work but the little guy will do for a few hours. may have to create my own block for mini fuses. Any updates on when the sub ohm kit is supposed to be available?

Important things with the auto fuse mod:

Use 10a. Fuse. Here it is in the mod. Notice the word 10 facees up:

You bend the pos leg up and bend the neg leg down.
Here's a pic:

File paint off area where neg leg touches mod.

Place small piece of self stick rubber (like a piece cut from a glass tabletop cushion) between the positive contact and the part of the mod it could contact. Ensure that there is no chance that the pos leg could make contact with any part of the mod or it will not blow if shorted.

Place a similar piece of rubber beneath the pos side to level the fuse (since neg leg is bent down under fuse) and to provide some "spring" in the fuse when battery is inserted. Here's a pic:
equpe3at.jpg

Test the fuse by firing and shorting across the posts. It should blow instantly. This is a very important step. Don't forget the step. If it doesn't blow, the positive leg is making contact with something other than the battery. That is no good. The rubber pieces need to prevent positive from contacting any part of the mod.

I keep a spare up by the feed tube :)

You can also take a spade terminal like on the right, bend and cut it so it looks like the one on the left, enlarge the hole a little, tap the spring holder screw into it, install in place of the spring, shape the fuse like so, cut a little off the straight fuse terminal, and wham bam fuse terminal and holder with no modification of the Reo necessary.

Or you could use modeling clay and make a mount so that you can use unmodified mini fuses :2cool:

In regards to performance specs of the Auto Blade Fuse, the regular 10A fuse is slightly better than the mini 10A fuses, but in our application its really splitting hairs. The full size has less resistance than the mini, however this is negligible and does not affect the vape. The trip curves are also slightly different but again this will not affect the vape. I have a mini fuse in my mod, and its a champ, I'm getting much less voltage drop than a spring.

When bending the legs, I found that taking the torch to them helped soften the metal so you don't crack or break the legs.
