Hi everyone,

I've been vaping for nearly a year now and would like to dive into squonking.
But I don't know which mod to buy. I have seen a lot 3D printed awesome looking devices but ~150 Euros feels a bit much for a start.

So I am kinda torn between the Coppervape, Pico Squeeze, the upcoming Icarus clone, the Hidra clone and the Frankenskull clone.
Are the 3D printed ones really worth the money?
I am even considering modding the clones with a MM510, sheet of silver and a supersoft bottle.
Even with the upgrades it would be cheaper then the 3D printed ones, right?

So what would be my best bet? I dont want to spend too much and then thinking it wasn't worth it but also don't wanna end up with something ....ty just because I was greedy.

Thanks

I had the same dilemma a while back. I ended up getting both the Coppervape and Pico Squeeze and I really like them both. I don't have any experience with the others, but I avoided the Frankenskull clones due to the amount of problems people seemed to be having with them. From my reading it sounds like they generally require a bunch of fiddling to get them working consistently. The Coppervape could easily sell for 2-3 times the price. It's a great piece of hardware. There's a huge thread all about it here: Coppervape BF Mod On the other hand, the Pico Squeeze is my go-to walking around mod due to it's small size and built in safety features. I don't think you could go wrong with either of them. I got them both for about USD $50 delivered from Fasttech.

If you have experience with Mechs, know your ohms law & know what batteries to use, I will also recommend the copper vape.

If not, the pico squeeze is a very good mod with the added benefit of some built in protection.

If you want to go with something regulated, the wraith is a very good single batter 80w device that you can find between $30 and $60

Cloned/Chinese 3d boxes are arriving and they are absolutely worth the 20euros or so price tag.

However,
150euros for a 3d printed mod today is insanity.
You could mill one from brass for a fraction of that.

3d printers cost a fraction of CNC equipment to buy and to operate.

The Chinese 3d printed gear is relatively new and will get better and cheaper.

For the price of some of the 3D printed mods you can buy a pretty decent 3D printer.

For the money you can't beat the Frankenskull clone. You also can't beat it for compact size and light weight. They are like the Bic Pen of squonkers. I have three CopperVapes, two aluminum and one brass. They are really nice. They are also now sitting in a drawer. I have five frankies and a sixth on the way.

You do not need to replace the contacts with silver, copper, or gold. With the stock SS contacts it hits as good as a CopperVape. You do not HAVE to replace the bottle, but I highly recommend it. You do not need to replace the 510. If you get the frankenskull atty you are good to go. For most standard attys you will need to slice a thin piece off the end of the squonk tube to use as a washer to shim the positive screw up to make contact. That's it. I also recommend sanding the leading edges of the contacts to make them easier on your battery wraps.

I was thinking about the COV Wraith does anyone have experience with it? Ive been vaping for about 3 years but have never tried a squonker and have been wanting to try it out.

I have one and it is a great squonker. Good form factor and decent board in it.

The cons for it are -
  • IMO the included RDA was not the best. Some others do like it
  • The feed system is unique to the the Wraith - I like it and there is little to no leaking, but it does limit what bottles you can use in it.
  • The rubber coating peals over time - I am going to scrape the rest of mine off next time I go to rebuild and clean it. The finish underneath is a gun metal color that looks good.
Overall I really like it and it is in my daily rotation (pic below). If you want more information check out the "Looks like another budget squonker is on the way... COV Wraith" thread. A lot of good info in there.

Here it is with an OL16 on top
