Hi fellow tinkerer.

I'm working on something that was equally awful, this used to be 100% piece of china, replaced the chip with genuine DNA40 last year. Got the idea of building a squonker and this mod became the involuntary volunteer. Made a hole on the side, prettied it up and painted the thing. Paint job is far from perfect due to lack of practice but who cares.

That lone black blob was painter over, it was a huge eye sore for me.

Still waiting for those squonk bottles I bought from Slowtech.
You have what is called "Orange peel" that has happened with the paint. If you want to bother with it quite often you can use automotive rubbing compound to smooth it out and get it looking nicer.

While I too have bought from Bell Forest. I also buy from a local to me Exotic Wood Store. They have an offcuts bargain bin in which I can find some very nice pieces which suit my needs. But none are labeled and since I acknowledge that I am terrible at identifying wood from an image on the web. Unless I am 100% sure what it is I just call it Unidentified.
I looked at Bell forest last night, they have good prices so i'll end up getting a few pieces from them soon,as far as i know,i don't think there are any exotic wood stores near me,i could be wrong though.
As far as identifying different woods,i'm right there with ya.I have several very nice looking blocks of wood that came from downed branches from tress in my yard that i want to eventually use for something, but i have no clue what type it is,the only way i know what i've used so far was because of the descriptions in the listings, otherwise i would just call it cool looking wood haha.

How do you wick it? I would assume you start from the bottom. Going to try it soon. I haven't found a build I like in the mulciber yet. Currently running parallel 26g 430 I think 6 or 7 wraps at .28 ohms. Slow ramp up & cool down.

That's a pretty smart design. Kind of like Narda airflow, but no messing around with the angled coil or split wick, etc...
If it had a LITTLE more air, or the air channel had a slant (to prevent leakout) I'd be really interested...

Picked up a pocket d/s from crafters den. Flavorful atty! Beats my Armor and Hadaly

There's about 8mm from the deck to the air hole. It would be very difficult as I'm finding out to over squonk.

It's pretty different than the gambit for sure. I could see what your saying but I think this is better designed.

Two things I noticed about those Gambit Clones was...

One, the Air Inlets seem like they might be Kinda Low. Maybe not a Game Breaker. But something to consider.

And Two... Those Slotted Head Screws would have to Go.

I agree, flavor is not quite on par with my Nuppins but it is very good.

Not having any leaking from the air hole issues but I agree that I would prefer a little more air, it is at the lower end of my restricted LH range.

Mods want to make it perfectly clear I am not trying to Sell any of these here squonkers.

Just want to share some of the mods I have made recently with these fine folks.
The majority are the 2 types of squonkers I currently make Unregulated and Mechanical.
First off some group shots and then Some individual pics.

Very nice work,i especially like the ones with the inlays.
In that first pic i qouted,do you know what type of wood the one is in the bottom row,2nd from the left?
The one in the middle of the 2nd picture is similar to what i've been working on.I really like the light wood center/dark wood sides look,so that is what i've started on with 3 different ones, now i just need to actually finish a couple haha.

If this is the one then I am sorry no. I have not been able to figure out what type of wood it is. I was able to get 2 mods out of the piece of wood that I started from. This one and the next picture with the inlay. Look nothing alike but from same piece.

As for the other that one I can tell you has Curly Maple centers and Walnut sides. I too love light/dark combo's
