@Sonar505 those are beautiful! Especially the purple one :)

Thank you very much
You will have to be a little more specific tho as I have 3 purple ones pictured 2 naturally purple ones and 1 in which I dyed the wood.

All of dem :D
But numba 5 caught my eye first :)

Kinda figured that was the one. As I said it is a dyed one made from Curly Maple with Ambrosia Maple sides. Was an experiment in that my previous dyed ones had wax and oil finishes with a few problems with the color fast. Especially when juice got on it. So for this one I finished it with Spray on Lacquer to see how that works before I try a different brand/type of dye. Glad you like it. Thanks.

I agree, flavor is not quite on par with my Nuppins but it is very good.

Not having any leaking from the air hole issues but I agree that I would prefer a little more air, it is at the lower end of my restricted LH range.

It is a pretty restricted lung hit but the flavor is on point. Beats my Hadaly on flavor but the Hadaly has more air. I just saw on the Crafters Den FB group that they will be having caps for them!!! Because the top cap can get pretty harsh especially if you chain vape.

If this is the one then I am sorry no. I have not been able to figure out what type of wood it is. I was able to get 2 mods out of the piece of wood that I started from. This one and the next picture with the inlay. Look nothing alike but from same piece.

As for the other that one I can tell you has Curly Maple centers and Walnut sides. I too love light/dark combo's
Yeah, that's the one.Whatever type of wood it is,it is beautiful,so is the one with the inlay, very cool.
The curly maple/walnut is exactly what one of the ones i'm building is made of.The description on the maple i got said tiger maple, but basically same thing i think, then i went with black walnut for the sides. One day i may actually get it completed haha,i got it stained, and put a few coats of poly on it,then the last coat went all screwy on me,so i had to sand it all the way back down to fix it,then i lost my motivation due to the thought of doing it all over again.I have that one,a zebra wood/sapele combo, and a lacewood/wenge combo that are all built just waiting for me to get around to putting a finish on them.

I have seen it called tiger or flame maple also.
Do you require a poly fininsh? Reason I ask is because I quit using poly on my mods years ago. It started to look more and more plastic like and also could not feel the warmth and texture of the wood when using it. So I started using a wax/oil finish instead. Which admittedly is not as durable as poly. but has a lot of extra benefits. # 1 being that if damaged in any way it is a simple process to quickly re sand and reapply to fix. Also the oil brings out color and figure in the wood like nothing else I have tried. And seems to get richer and deeper over time. (Think hand rubbed gun stock).
The way I do it is very simple. After sanding and shaping is done. and before the internals are installed . I give the wood shell 2 baths in mineral oil. with a quick wet sand in between the baths. Let it drip dry. Then melt together a 50/50 mixture of mineral oil and wax. Rub on mix. Then install internals. After I reapply mix as needed. Using less and less as time goes by. While the wood luster seems to get deeper and deeper. Plus it feels so much better while in hand.

How much does it cost to have it "serviced" by Ayie?? I was curious incase i ever need to get it fixed. I would love to get some stabwood door/token sets. I seen a really nice brown juma door that would look awesome with my color smokey. I wish i could have got a black, grey, green or red but this was the only one Ayie had for sale threw Mikeys Mod Mart. I was surprised to see that they where auctioning off a 13 mech directly from the modder.

What are the chances i have Serial number 13 of a 13 mech. Pretty nice serial number imo. Ive seen some that dont have serial numbers on the inside of the mod, underneath the door panel. I dont know much about these, as im new to the 13 fb group. So i was curious if they all came serialized. I know they had the VIP run that was, but i dont know if the rest are.

Any insite you can offer would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Thanks for sharing your method,i'll have to give that a go.The only reason i've used poly was because i wasn't sure of any other ways to do it haha.I have just recently started doing any kind of wood working,so it's all still new at this point,so i definitely appreciate the tip.

I finally received my Icarus Styled Mod today. First thoughts on it (after an hour) -
  • I am getting no sparking (I know this has been an issue with some versions of this one) Fully Charged Sony VTC5
  • With no Battery or bottle in it, the internals are very loose and can fall out. They are nice and snug when everything is in.
  • You may not want to change the battery or refill this without being over a table, when the battery comes out, neither door will stay on due to the magnets that hold the doors on use the battery to attach to.
  • The internals are wrapped very nicely
  • No button lock on this one.
  • The Bottle is junk - I swapped it out with a SJMY Super Soft bottle. The YFTK Super Soft bottle will not fit.
  • It is a weighty mod, this is definitely no boxer or Frankie.
  • Size wise it is a little bigger then a Boxer Styled mod, I dont have a Frankie to compare
  • I am running a Gorge on it (Orange and Black driptip so it matches) with a .4 ohm SS Build and it preforms well. It hits harder then my Boxer and maybe slightly harder then the CopperVape though it is close with that one
  • Finally, the paint is very nice and I am not sure if it is paint. Time will tell how well it holds up. I use a lot of Cinnamon & Horchata Juices so we will see if it peals when I spill juice on it or if it holds up.

Does your version have the little sleeve on the pin for the positive contact to hit?Mine was a first run from the pre order, and sparks like crazy, and the doors wobble when a battery is installed.I like the bottle though, enough so that i've ordered 30 more of them haha.

Bargain Squonk Porn...
First, I got stupid lucky in a Facepluck "waffle" and WON, meaning I got the Gloom, which was on my VERY VERY short list of mods I wanted, for about 1/10th of what they sell for.
Then, a vendor goofed and sent me the wrong cap, and they made it right by replacing AND giving me the above cap ALMOST for free - and I was thinking about buying it anyway.
Deep red tip, that matches the Gloom accent logo so nicely? Had it sitting around, it's Fasttech, $2.05.
:D:D
