Its actually a hell of alot easier to make a cotton build for a genny. I have an rsst and have a 1.3 ohm micro coil with cotton wick and its a chain vaping beast. Can be on it the whole time till the tanks bone dry before i get dry hits. Gonna try a dual micro on my kraken with cotton when it gets here and maybe try ss rope for the first time. SSrope is by far the best wick for a genny as you should never get a dry hit but it has the potential to short and is an extreme juice ...... Goodluck on finding what works and keep us updated on your progress.

I cant chime in on SS mesh.. but i have a kraken my first RBA and looking at the other builds on youtube and stuff with ssmesh and wire and eco wool and all that stuff i must say cotten seems the easiest.. i ahve heard ss mesh or ss rope or whatever is a better wick i do have to make sure i tilt mine and make sure the cotton stays wet.. but as far as inserting the wick it super easy.. throw on a micro coil and just twist the end of the cotton and slide it down the hole and pull it through the other end.. super simple .. want to change flavors .. sure.. empty ur tank.. wipe it out/rinse whatever.. dry burn the coil to clean off old juice.. let cool for a sec and push another peice of cotton in it.. dont think you can do that with the ss stuff... but again abut the wicking i heard one of those ss either rope or chain or mesh or whatever was better to not have to worry about tilting as much ..

I've made both and would vote for cotton unless you're going on a road-trip or need something for work where you don't have to stop after an hour and put more in (not like that this is THAT hard but still.)
Boyfriend likes mesh for his favorites. He's tried Silica but notices a taste in comparison to cotton. Plus, the cotton is so easy to do-- maybe takes a minute or two. Mesh can be fun to play with but when
you need a wick and you're looking for your burner, a glass of water to cool it off, tongues, etcetera-- it can be a real pain. Rebuildable is still way better than not....but so far, in the last two days of playing
with cotton-- it's great and I love how easily accessible it is to get organic U.S.A. cotton down at the grocery store.

Mesh for me, i was impressed by cotton when i tried it but then i discovered that unlike mesh.. i gotta rebuild it every friggin week and i'm too lazy so mesh all the way.

Also what do u mean ss rope? as in the things that hold up bridges and stuff? cant imagine that wicking very well.

I saw that some people use it! Lol. Not sure exactly what it is. Just trying to get everyones opinions.

well this would be a steel rope

Wicking works through capillary action that relies on narrow pathways to climb along the structure. A rope shape would have said pathways but in case of steel, they would be so big and so few that it really wouldn't work well as a wick. A mesh is just a collection of holes spread out in a very regular way with a very consistent size which is why it works.

Someone will jump in and defend mesh, but I'd say go for cotton.

It requires little prep (no scorching or precise rolling), is cheap, facilitates microcoiling, never shorts, wicks very well, provides better flavour (some say), and is easily replaceable without requiring recoiling.

Thinking of anyone in particular?

Ultimately, it's all about personal preference. I'll just add my :2c: for the mesh.
Mesh can be tricky to learn how to set up properly. Not to argue, but I don't do any precise rolling or scorching of wicks. I just roll, juice burn, pulse and go. Done deal. Ready for many months of vaping with a dry-burn once or twice a month. (I don't vape liquids thick on flavor that gunk up coils quickly)

Where mesh shines is purity of flavor, durability, reliability and very low maintenance compared to the soft wicks. I see the aggravation of the initial learning curve as a trade-off. You can take all the aggravation "up front", or you can take the aggravation in small portions for ever. I'm talking about the more frequent wick replacement of cotton and silica. I'm all about picking up an e-cig, pressing a button, vaping and be done with it. I can't stand doing maintenance every few days.

Setting up a mesh wick is not hard or time consuming. Learning to set up a mesh wick can be hard and time consuming. It does require some dedication. If you just want to see what it's all about and don't really really want to learn how to do it; it's not for you.

I personally like a harder initial challenge and then low to no maintenance after for a while. So, SS mesh for me. Unlike a rope, you can re-roll it and control its hollowness and thickness much better, plus it wicks like a beast by itself. Now, getting you wick not to hot leg and glow evenly is a whole different story.

Time you save on setting cotton up gets taken up on frequent overhauls vs mesh takes up that huge initial time, but you can just dry burn it periodically to kind of self-clean.

Mind all you who have it easy, I'm doing mesh on Fogger and it is THE most annoying thing imaginable, but extremely rewarding in the end.

tried mesh in my protank and hated it, retried it on the RSST and my feelings remain the same. 1ohm 5/64 micro coil and cotton = Amazing vape. I set mine up like an auto dripper, small wick. just tip the tank a little and took a few puffs, tip again and a few more puffs. Taste just like my dripper but now I dont have to carry the juice with me.
