DID legacy ZEN SW ZAU Poldiac.jpgsub ohm zau on poldiac.jpgSS Mesh Wicks- Solid or Hollow....
What do you prefer and why?
What count mesh? 325, 400, 500?
Personally, I used hollow wicks rolled around a paper clip until I got into mech mods and sub-ohm vaping, now it seems to me that solid wicks are better for sub-ohm (higher watt) vaping because they dont dry up.....
Comments.....experiences???
post pics of your set-ups...
do you prefer ribbon kanthal or awg kanthal, why? differences between the 2?
i use .5 ribbon for regulated devices (above 1.2 ohm). and .8 ribbon for sub-ohm, exclusively from kidney puncher- i was sold on their ribbon marketing, that everyone else sells ribbon kanthal d and theirs is the best, lol....ideas?

I generally use 400. I have 500, but I see no difference between 400 and 500, for the juice I use, which is anywhere from 70PG/30VG to 60PG/40VG. I roll mine around a paperclip.
On mechanical mods, I pulse oxidize. On vv/vw devices, I use a torch.
I use 28ga kanthal on mechanicals, and like about .8 or .9Ω. On my vv/vw PVs, I use 30ga kanthal, and like around 1.5Ω.

I guess I fall somewhere in between. I use 500 rolled like a straw, then roll 325 solid and really tight to put in & fill the straw hole on the 500. I only oxidize (lightly) the part of the 500 where the wick is going to wrap around & nothing else. 3 wrap 28g. Wick's like a champ. I can't stand having to tilt, so this set-up works best for me. I prefer 100%vg.

I also don't see a huge advantage of the 500 vs. 400. For me they are equal.

500 wrapped around a syringe needle. tiny hole around it.

I do it not because i want or not a hole inside, but because I want something solid inside the mesh while wrapping the coil, then remove

tilt a bit, about 4' o clock, not out of need, it's just that fully vertical seems unnatural for an ex-VERY-heavy smoker

good thread everyone! thanks! i was workin all day yesterday so im gettin back to it right now...
i have the need to tilt all my pieces, if i dont, especially at sub-ohms, my wicks, no matter how fat, cannot keep up and dry up at that amount of watts (mid-upper 20's)...0.5 ohm, 3 wrap .8 ribbon kanthal....there was a certain point, that i began to only use ribbon k, both, in .5x.1 for above an ohm coil (regulated set ups), and .8x.1 (mechs) sub-ohm coils....i instantly saw how much easier it was to work with both from a wrapping and a hotspot perspective, and the flavor seems better...i dont think its hard to put 2 n2 together n see that so much more area of the wick is being used as a heating surface...
about mesh sizes, i have trouble (kinda) getting epipemods pipesauce to wick really well using any mesh setup....i have a suspicion its just their juice, but mesh changes the taste for me, and it vaporizes weird- it gurgles and gunks up the wick before vaporizing, a really odd thing to see on a mesh wick- anyone else notice that with pipe sauce? heres a close up of a sub ohm recently made coilzen sw new coil.jpg .8 ribbon kanthal 0...6 ohm (about), this is my new solid wick, seems to vape excellent, u can kinda see heating started from the middle of the coil by discoloration----in other words- success...
share ur pics- take ur tops off today!!!

Currently I'm using 400 SS wicks and 5 coils of 32 kanthal wire, 2.5Ω. I wrap the wick starting on an eyeglass screwdriver, temper it, then unroll and fill the center with a very thin strip of cotton cheesecloth. Just shlorps up liquid like crazy. I have this right now at 8.5 watts, 50/50 mix.

what atty is that? it kinda looks like the agi? im havin issues with that atty cuz the center post is so short....i cant push enough watts no matter how i re coil that thing...i vape at max on regulated devices and about 20-30 watts (5-7amps) on my mechs...it sounds like a lot, but using the ohms law (v sq/resistance) im getting 25w (c. 6amps) on mechs and it vapes beautifully, and when the clones behave- 13-15w on regulated, however im using a single battery confiuguration, i tried double stackin on the vamo this morning and at 15 w it just lit like a firecracker, lol....

here are two pics of the zen atty u and the short did...both with 400 mesh solid wicks, .8ribbon k, 3/4 wrap, 0.7ohm..
amazing how much harder the DID hits than the ZAU....did poldiac .7ohm .8ribbonk.jpgsub ohm zau on poldiac.jpg
i ended up taking a wrap off the ZAU coil, it hits better, still not as hard as the DID, surprisingly the ohms remained 0.7....go figure?
anyone have a logical explanation for that one?
zau one less wrap.jpg heres the after pic...how can the ohms stay the same?
puzzlement.,,lol

Yep, an AGI and I LOVE... IT. I use it as a tank while at work, dripper at home. It was my second RBA and I've rarely, if ever, had any issues. That said, I just received the RSST Genesis and wow, I'm sold. At the moment I have that with the same type wick, hollow SS mesh with cheesecloth inside and my office just FILLS with vape :D The taste is brilliant, and I only need to hold it horizontally for a moment or two before a toot.

I like slightly less TH, so I've drilled out the holes on all my RBAs. With this method, I still get awesome taste, lots of clouds.
